I hate the registration deal, especially since I've been posting here for five years under the name Fish-on and registration only allows me to post as Fish_on. But some people have started to use my name in an apparent effort to smear me. I will from now on post as I registered some time ago: Fish_on. Anything else is not me. To those of you on this sight that keep things on the up-and-up I want you to know I appreciate it and I don't want a few bad apples to spoil the whole barrel so I'm giving in.

Just stubborn and don't like change I guess, I've never tried to cover who I was and usually post my name with a controversial post. But now I have to change after 5 years from Fish-on to Fish_on. Feel like I'm starting over.
Small price to pay I guess for the use of a really great site.

I know it can be hard changing a name and feeling like its completely starting over, its frustrating. While I don't know if it will really help you could always get into your profile and settings and for a signature put "Formally known as Fish-On". Carry that old identity with your new one.
Fish_On; The new Fish-On may be a new comer that didn't know the handle was already in use. If it is a trouble maker he/she/it could post under any of our handles if we don't register. Remember even if you register you can still find your handle in use under a guest post. The only way to assure others that you are you is to sign in each time you arrive here at WC.

Nice try Bernie. Bernie comes in here and slams peoples products, then realizes he himself is in trouble, and hurting his own business. So he retracts and pretends it wasent him. Come on Bernie face the music, you made your bed now lie in it, dont go running away with your tail between your legs.

You might be right on the ball but I'd say give the benefit of the doubt if the ISPs match up then there's a problem but if the ISPs don't match then we all need to relax. I odn't know what you based that statement off of but the last thing the board needs is vandettas with no more basis then handles.

Kev, are you talking about IP addresses?
If so, the thing about that is most dial up providers use dynamic IP addys, which means everytime you connect, you are assigned a different IP address. If you are on cable or dsl, you most likley have a static IP addy, which never changes. Most people dont realise this.
Not a big deal, just thought you might be interested.

If you would take the time to check the ISP numbers they would prove you wrong.

I know it has been a long winter... John, support your allegations, draft a more constructive post, or don't post. As we all know, it's pretty easy to sit behind an alias and poke people. Bernie can't hide behind "Fish-On" because most of the regulars know who is posting. However, I don't know you. Is this the same "John" that initiated the "call yourself a pro" thread? Bernie, it's about time you registered...

I am currently persuing a degree in nework administration, so I know a little about what I am talking about. I dont claim to be an expert.
If you take the time to read the third paragraph on this link maybe you will understand the difference between a static and dynaminc IP address.
http://www.tzo.com/mainpagetext/TheProblemWithDynamicIPaddressPage.html
There are no "ISP numbers" ISP means Internet Service Provider, such as Earthlink. IP refers to Internet Protocol, a function of the TCP/IP protocol stack, which basically is resposible for assigning an address to a particular node on a network through the transport layer.

John, I think you need to find something else to do other than get people riled up on this site. The last thing I need on top of my cabin fever is a dork like you taking up space here. But thats only my view. When I read a couple of recent posts from Fish-on, I could tell by the writing style, and I'm sure alot of others could also, that it wasn't Bernie posting. Your style of writing is also recognizable and I don't think I am the only person who is becomming annoyed. Why don't you be useful and go take a kid fishing or something.
Good luck

Annoyed is an understatement.
Cabin fever and short tempers are one thing, seeking to stir trouble and attack person at every turn is another thing all together.
I am confident the good folks here on WC.com can see the difference between the two.
It is no idle treat when the administrators say they can trace troublemakers with ease. It is well within a site owners and administrators right to report such behavior to the offenders IP to protect their interests and property.
Common courtesy is an easy concept to understand.

John - I had just posted a sternly worded response to your post 16. But, before it got up, you posted again (19). So, I'm doing a quick edit job in light of your apology.
For a walleye fisherman, there's no better site than WC, and for this reason, we jealously guard the integrity of the site and its members. That's why we jump in to assist those we feel are being treated fairly. Anyway, if you're new, welcome.

ISP have codes normally national companies break it down to regions too. So you can check the ISP from the IP address, we have varying accounts with locked IP numbers operating on the same line so I could access each account and it would be a different IP address but the ISP coding would be the same. Normally there are so many ISPs being used if you check the ISP and region code assuming its a major company it would tell you if its the same person or different people. Most companies will divulge the company and region ID portions of the IP, or atleast its been my experience as such. It took an ISP owner, a webmaster, and a computer tech that builds computers and software to explain that one too me but thats how I understand the coding to work. The IP refers to an ISP account then to a customer.
