I just bought a used 2007 explorer 1600ss. The boat had a 24volt auto pilot on it but the owner kept it, so I'm looking at a minn kota maxxum pro with lift assist , 80 lbs variable foot 24 volt. Is anyone using this motor and do they like it, is it a good choice for the boat? thanks to all in advance

I have a 74lb Maxxum on a 16 1/2 foot aluminum boat. It is a fantastic trolling motor. Some would say overkill, but you can never have too much.

I would agree, overkill, but that is way better than having an under powered bow mount:cheers:

I am using the MaxxumPro80US on my 2006 Explorer 1600ss. OverKill?? I am always hoping that MinnKota will make a 101lbs in 24V. Maybe is the way I fish, I prefer the CableDrive over the PowerDrive I used to have on my last boat. If you have your Batteries and Charger up front, you might be able to get away with the 52", if not, get the 62". I have everything at the back of the boat now so anything more than 20Mph wind, my prop blow out.

I've got the same TM as San Chan - MaxxumPro 24v 80lb with universal sonar. After about a year, I love it - plenty of power for my boat - which is a bit heavier than your's. I've bumped some rocks and stumps and it just bounces back and keeps on going. The US is nice - no more cables running up and down the TM. I hardly ever troll and just like the simplicity and speed of the cable drive.

I think you'll really like it as long as you're one of those guys who spends all his time on the front deck like I do.
