I'm ordering a new 619 w/225 Yamaha 4 stroke. Anybody out there running this set-up. Just wondering how the performance is. Thanks

If performance is a concern, this would have been a better question before you ordered the boat. An etec or opti would have performed much better on that rig. Instead of low 50's, you would have been pushing 60's with a 225HO etec or 225 PRO XS. Hole shot will also be a factor. I think it is pretty sad to have to put a hydrofoil on a $50,000 Ranger because the Yamaha 4 strokes have trouble getting on plane.
If your looking for a reliable motor and aren't concerned with speed than you'll be ok. I really considered the F150 Yamaha for my Reata when I ordered, but when I drove one, it was very slow coming on plane compared to the etec I have. Once it got up running it was fine. More maintenance on the four stroke also. Just my two cents.

More maintance on the opti-pops and e-tickers when the power heads blow up! Yamaha = RELIABILITY!!!

I didn't say they weren't reliable, I said if you were worried about performance to go with a 2 stroke. By the way, I have owned 4 Evinrudes in my life and my family has owned many more than that and never had one blow up yet!!!
Yamaha's are great motors, I have run T-8's for years. I just think going all four stroke on the long shafts for walleye boats kind of limits choices for customers is all.
This was a personal choice, due to multiple toy habits, not to worry about longer break in, oil changes, valve adjustments, timing belt/chain and whatever other adjustments there are.
Thats the great thing about such a wide selection. Each person can choose whatever combination they like or what works best for their type of fishing. Have fun with your new boat!!!

I test drove a 07' with full windshield and T-8 and was able to run up to 55+ with the GPS. That is with the 21 Yami Saltwater seriesII prop. Ask for that and have the motor mounted on the top hole. I own a 620 with the F250 and could not be a happier guy. I have owned HPDI and OPTI on the past two boats and I would not go back to a 2 stroke. I also fish tourneys so performance is semi important.

With the Yami 4stk the only place you will probably be disappointed is getting on plane with a full livewell. Big deal now it takes 6 seconds instead of 3. Whoopy!

Got a 08 620 with a F250 and it performs great. Get's on plane fine with a full fuel load and a couple of guys. I was planning on ordering a 2 stroke until I went for a ride in a 620, last fall at the Cleveland FLW championship. The yamaha was quiet and ran great. The nice thing about being at a event like that you notice a 2 stroke engine trailer that has half a dozen power heads sitting around. When you are dropping 50k, you need to be a educated consumer. I took a ride before I bought mine and I am glad I did. I found out first hand how well that engine performed. It was nice to dispel that "yamaha myth".

I have an 07 619 with F225 and LOVE it. VERY quick on plane with a 21p rev4, get consistently mid 50's with full tank and all gear and 2 guys. With a 3 blade im sure i'd be getting high 50's. You made the right decision. Don't listen to all the jealous opti-pop and de-fect motor owners.

Over zealous opti pop???? Maybe you havent researched a 250 yamaha hpdi. All of them have probs but I tell you what. I sure would rather support American products than foreign stuff anyday no matter the cost. All the talk about us buying too much foreign oil. I dont see much difference in buying foreign cars, motors, whatever. If you want to hang a foreign motor on your American boat and then try to convince someone how American goods are inferior your barking up the wrong tree. My $.02. Dont complain how our economy is bad.

Thanks TMF,Slipknot,EP-Duluth. This will be my 3rd Yamaha. Had an 01 HPDI and currently I'm running an 03 Vmax 150 on my 617. I have'nt ordered the boat yet but real soon. So I been wanting a little feedback from guys running this set-up. EP was that a 619 you test drove ? And slipknot why have you gone with a 4 blade instead of the 3 blade.

Thanks Glenn

You might want to call some dealers and ask about that combo. Important will be that each dealer sells all brands to give you a non biased answeras well as any known problems.

Pamps in Green bay
Al's Specialty in Rochester, mn
Anglers Edge in Rockford,Il

Do a google on "Ford Outsourcing". You'll see that the american companies your supporting don't even buy american. They send thousands of jobs out of this country. They don't purchase american labor, why purchase their american products. They've sold us out bro. Catch up with the times. Don't be so naive.

I wont argue the oursourcing issue because its true enough.

But, the american auto industry still supports thousands of good paying jobs here in this country.

an interesting site on this is www.jobspercar.com (http://www.jobspercar.com)

sorry to go off topic with this but I felt I needed to reply since I am in the auto industry and am directly affected by this issue.

Sorry Perchjerker, but I'm in the IT industry. For years, I had purchased only american because I naively thought I was keeping the money in this country. Then I started to realize how much our own american companies were sending jobs like mine out of this country through outsourcing. I must admit, I became bitter. So my take is, if these american companies don't want to purchase american IT services, why should I continue to support them by buying their products. When they decide to spend their money in this country, I'll go back to doing the same. The american companies sole priority is to realize a profit. The american companies are no more dedicated to keeping the money within this country's economy as the guy that buys a Yamaha outboard. That's all I have to say on this subject. Sorry to help continue to derail this thread.

Yes it was a demo 2007 619 with F225 and T8 with full windshield. We ran it last fall and it ran right up to 55+ on the gps. Also got on plane fine unless you filled the livewell then it is a bit slower.
As I said before, after owning the F250 620 combo I will not go back to a 2 stroke period. I've owned both brand of two stokes prior to this F250. Good luck with you're purchase!

Slipknot, what hole is your motor mounted in? I have the 225 Verado on my 619, and I do not like the way the boat handles the rougher water. When I trim "down" all the way, I can't get the boat to plow through the water. The bow bounces really bad. Just wondering if I drop the motor down a position or two if that would help force the bow into the water.
