I have a 175 Verado with a 19 Laser II prop and well... I am having trouble finding the sweet spot in the trim. I have found that if I go past 3 on my smart craft gauges it doesn't do anything other than throw the RPM's up to 6500. The motor is siting on my 1900 Pro-V if that matters to anyones advice. I am also wondering if putting the full plugs in the props vent holes will increase performance at all? I knew going into it that the most I could expect out of this motor / boat combo was 50 MPH (and only on calm water) but to get it I have to have it running at 6500 to 7000 RPM and then it sucks fuel. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

...but this should not happen until you've trimmed out to 6 or higher with a Smartcraft 0-10 trim gage which I'm assuming you're running. The problem may be that the Laser is a fairly small diameter prop with small blades by today's standards. Lasers seem to work pretty well on rigs of 17 ft and less which don't need as much blade area as bigger rigs. If possible, see if you can borrow a Tempest Plus in the same pitch as the Laser for a try- or a Rev4. The 2 props mentioned have a lot more blade area and should be able to run much more trim out before they start to vent. The PVS vent holes in these props work mostly when you are starting up on plane- they have very little effect above 3000 rpm, so I don't think that this relates to the problem you are having. I had a similar problem on my 17 ft rig when I borrowed a Laser to try- so I stayed with the Tempest and Trophy Plus props that I normally run. I didn't suggest the Trophy Plus 4 blade for your boat since the Trophy has a small diameter and a small hub which will give you a lot of venting on a larger rig- although if you can borrow a Trophy Plus it never hurts to give it a try.

I have had the same problem with my 175 Verado and the Laser 2 -19 prop.
The motor is on a new 20 ft Lund Explorer. Talking to several dealers and
individuals that own the same or similiar boat the Tempest Plus 19 seems
to be the answer for at least the explorer for both Top end and lifting the
hull out of the water. I am trying to get my dealer to flip props for me.

I've got the 175 Verado, 19P Laser II on my 1950 Tyee. I tried the 19P Tempest plus as well. Hole was a touch better with the Tempest, but I dropped some top end, and bow lift was certainly better with the Tempest too. The 1950 Tyee and 1900 proV are pretty much same weight

Hole is still very good with the Laser II, I trim it up to about 9.1 is optimal for me for top end speed according to the Smartcraft trim guage. Any more, and it just spins, speed doesnt change or drops. I get a touch over 47 mph GPS with my family of 4 in the boat and 50 gallons of fuel on fairly calm lake. Take out a couple people and 1/2 tank of fuel, I get "close" to 50, but the GPS still hasn't touched it.

Regarding RPM's, my RPM at that trim setting is about 6250-6270, somewhere in there. Pretty sure that 6500-7000 is way outside the max rpm for the 175 Verado

Think my motor is mounted near the bottom, not the top of the holes. I'll bet if I was to move the motor up a few holes, the Tempest Plus would be the right prop. Lund factory even recommended the Laser II for my rig, and for my setup, they are bang on.

All those RPMs you gain when you trim up...but no speed...is because you are just shooting more Rooster Tail...you are venting ...and not lifting the bow.

Get a Tempest 19 on there and see the difference.
Lazers just don't work all that well on a heavier boats like yours.

Exactly like TMac stated - Verados on Lunds perform best with a Tempest rather then a Lazer II

I don't know about the 19 pitch props but when comparing 17 pitch props the Enertia is pretty amazing compared to a Laser or Vengeance. The bow lift is something you have to experience to believe. I had a 19p Tempest plus on my boat and due to altitude I now am running a 17p Enertia. It hooks better than any prop I've ever used and air the hull out so much more when trimmed up. Gained 1.5 to 2.5 MPH and holeshot is once again-best I've ever tried.
