if you use one how reliable is it and do you recommend it ?
Just my personal opinion...The reviews alone would keep me from buying one..no I don't have one and can't comment based on fact. Does seem to get mostly negative feedback though?

I've used one on my bass boats for 20 years...... wouldn't be without one. However, they can't be used on all hulls. My 620 Ranger won't take one as the keel drops off too sharply in front. I sure do miss having one on that trailer.
The key is knowing how to use it..... it can be your best friend or worst enemy. Just remember that it is ALWAYS in the trailering position except when loading the boat. It should be in the "load" position when putting the boat on the trailer. Once loaded, it will have deployed through the boweye. It must then be returned to the trailering position when you put the winch strap on for trailering. It is easy to return it to the trailering position by putting a little pressure on the winch strap while extracting the trigger pin from the bow eye. It is a great product. I'll guarantee those that cuss it out aren't using it properly or have it on a boat with a hull such as my 620.

My brother had one on his Lund roller trailer. What a pain in the butt. If the ramp was to steep or too shallow it would not catch. Had to have the perfect angle to catch it and make it latch. He finally took it off after a couple of months trying to get it to work.

Thanks guys. The whole purpose of the advantage of that type of attachment, at least to me, is to have it hook up on steep ramps. Looks like that will not work. As Planocrat stated, it does not work on a 620, which is also my boat.
Take care,
on steep or shallow ramps the key is how far you back your trailer in. If you back in too far it may not line up
