What color or technique of hair jigs for walleye work? I've tried and tried with no luck. I have caught bass and stripers(very few). River or lake? Tipped with live bait or not? Thanks!

My personal favorite is a 1/4 oz. or 1/8 oz. white jig head with white buck tail. I tend to use these jigs when "tough" conditions exist & traditional presentations aren't working well. The jigs can be fished bare or tipped with leeches, monnows, crawlers, or plastic. (vertical jigging or casting and slowly retrieving on bottom)
As a side bar, these baits work very well on, for me, on Smallmouth bass and Whitebass. Good luck!

While I generally use 1/8th oz.plastic jigs, I find that when I switch to hair jigs, I get more fish by going to 1/4 oz. Black with a leech has produced the best for me in a local lake. While fishing in the St. Lawrence River, you have to use 1/2 oz or more due to current. I always tip with a crawler when in the river. Just my experiences.

I can't say that I have tried black. I try draging them on the bottom where I would ketch on a plastic(once they quit biting plastic) and I get weeds, moss or hung up. I'm thinking wrong location for bottom lure. Thanks, I wil try what you guys mentioned.
