Where can I get non-China made Marathons from? I just ordered a bigger load range tire with wheel for my trailer and the tire was made in China. Where can I get the US made Marathons from?

Check Cabela's.

I just called Cabela's because I'm looking at buying 2 trailer tires.
I see where they show the Goodyear Marathon tires as being made in the USA.......

I called to be sure that they were indeed made in the USA, not wanting a Chinese product....

GUESS WHAT

The nice lady at Cabela's looked up the code of where the product came from, and to her surprise found they are actually from New Zealand

I would think that that is an improvement over China, but I think I'll do a little more research here.

But tell me,
Was New Zealand part of that deal when we bought Alaska?? :stick:.....

The New Zealand tires are supposed to be good.

Shorland'r trailers were coming with Marathons, made in New Zeland last year. Thats the tires that were on my trailer and no problems with them so far.

Let us know when you get them in, hold old they are. That seems to be the other big problem.

I just got the New Zealand Goodyear Marathons from Cabela's.
The date code is 4207, that would be about some time in Oct. of last year.

I'm Happy with that date...

Thanks for the info....

I looked at my old tires when I removed them. It appears as though the date code (maybe I'm wrong, but it's the only numbers that look like a date code) only has 3 numbers, and they are 389. Do you think they were made in the 3rd week (or month) of 1989 ? Did they only use 3 numbers at one time ?
The trailer was made in 1998 !!

389 should mean the 38th week of the 9th year of the decade. Changed to four digits after 2000 I believe.

That sounds more likely. I wouldn't think they would last 19 years!
Thanks for the info.
I checked my trailer registration year after reading your post, it's 2000, not 1998 (another example of how great my memory is !!), so I'm betting your right.

Thanks for the info,
Bill

Stinky Cat,

Based on my own bad experience and that of many others ( see RV.NET.com and search marathon), you will likely have a failure on one or more of your "China Bomb" marathons. At a minimum, change out the two running tires on the trailer to Maxxis or New Zeland made Marathons. For less than a couple of hundred dollars, its just not worth the risk of damage and the hassle of having a blow-out.
