We have an older-1998- Explorer. Looking to replace.
Both models have improvements over the old. Who has tried them and feel one is better? Ride and leg room (I am 6'1")--is important.

Swede,

6' tall and purchased an Envoy on the reccomnedation of a close friend that manages a GMC, Dodge, Nissan, and Chevy dealership. Own a BMW 528 and the Envoy. The Envoy is great and has a lot of power. Are you towing? If so, how far? The gas tank in the Envoy could be about 5 gallons bigger if you ask me, but that is my only complaint. It has plenty of leg and head room (don't get the sunroof). Friend has an Exploder and has had a lot of problems. The Envoy won truck of the year for many reasons. It is also the first SUV that doesn't have to have a disclaimer that it is a rollover candidate.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

PS: I tow a Lund Rebel 16SS and can't even tell its there.

Swede,

I purchased a Trailblazer last November. After driving the Trailblazer, Explorer, Expedition and Tahoe, I decided that the Trailblazer was the right vehicle for me. I too am 6'1" and I am very comfortable in the Trailblazer, although I do have the seat all the way back, which doesn't leave a lot of leg room for a rear seat passenger. Not a problem since I rarely have anyone in the back seat.

I found that the in-line 6 cylinder in the Trailblazer out performed both the Ford V-6 and the Triton V-8. Simply put, this is an amazing engine. I have actually set myself back in the seat when I stepped on it at 70 mph. It tows my Lund Angler like it isn't there. Mileage runs about 15 mpg towing and 19 non towing (both at 70 mph).

I have the LT version, just because I loke all of the bells and whistles. The LS is a little less money and probably fine.

Overall, I am extremely happy with the Trailblazer. I couldn't ask for a better vehicle.

You are going to have much better leg room and hip room in the Envoy/Trailblazer. The angle of the back seat is also much better for long rides in my opinion. I also like the 270 horses you get with GM but have always been nervous about buying the "first year" model of any vehicle. With all that said, I'm a big fan of the looks of the Explorer and there seem to be tons on the road.
Lastly, I've never been in an Explorer which rides worth a #####. I guess I really didn't answer anything for you, but drive them both and see which one your wife likes. That's usually the only way to be happy anyway!

since i,m a mechanic by trade i,mm offer this, go with the Envoy if you can afford it, this is just my opinion but you couldn,t give me a ford SUV they remind me of a rolling soup can and i see more of them in our shop than all others combined, bottom line is to each there own if you feel more comfortable with a ford buy it but do yourself a favor and test ride as many different models as you can.
