View Full Version : Daiwa LC reels
Having already decided on Daiwa line counters. Now 27 or 47? I'll be using these reels almost strictly for in-line planer boards. Is the size/weight the only differnce between the 47lc and sg-27lc. I already tried the Cabelas line counters and sent them back. I'd like to only have to do this once more. Why such a price differnce between the 47lc and sg-27lc? The inter works are the same? Dependabilty being the most important thing which one? Thank you for any help Tim

The 47lc's are much bigger. The 27's are better suited to walleye fishing, but I have 2 47's. They work fine, and serve double duty for Salmon.
Personally, I think there is a higher demand for the 27's thats why they cost more. I could be wrong, though. Both are pretty much bullet proof in my experience.

Personally I use the 47's, have 6 and not once had any trouble with any of them. I have used the 27 a few times but surely would not trade mine for them. Can you tell I am sold on them??
Have 4 27's and only know some guys like the drag on the 47 a little better (personal preference). Most guys get the 47 if they run lead. Wouldn't use any other reel.

I run the 27's for planer board fishing. I have 5 of them and they work great. I also have 2 of the old 47's that are good dependable reels. I picked them up pretty cheap, is the reason I bought them. I have them rigged with segmented lead core. But they would work good for planer board reels also. Either way I don't think you can go wrong with the Daiwa reels.

I own 8 Diawa 27lc and one 47lc. I myself prefer the size of the 27lc for both salmon and eyes, over the 47. Have been running them for years without any problem whatsoever! The 47 are great if you want to run a full lead core rig instead of segmented. 47s do tend to be slightly top heavy and will flip over in some rod holders and hang upside down! Can't go wrong with either reel.......spend the money as they are both worth every cent!! Fishnwiz

The only dif that affects you between the 47 and 27 is the line capacity, which means one is wider and heavyier than the other..price wise Cabela's Bass Pro are going to be close...Reeds used to put a reel and rod package together that was something like buy the reel and we throw in a downrigger rod at the same price.. also sometimes Dakota mart will have a good price on a combo.

if u wana know Check www.FishUSA.com they have good prices and a flat rate on shipping. I just got 2 new Okuma's off them. On my boat i have 4 Daiwa SG47's and now 4 Okuma Magda 30DX.
I use the Okumas off the boards with little dipsy's with their speedy reeling its not hard to bring in 250+ft in a matter of a min.
The diawas i use for heavier applications like Big Dipsy's, riggers or Salmon Fishing Ontario. They are just a very durable reel with a lot of power to them.
Daiwa is by far the best built fresh water line counter as long as u buy the SG Models, the older ones work ok, but nothing like the SG27 and 47's. Okumas are nice and do the job good...Just dont hook up to a 30lb king with one and ull be sayin so long gears and drag.

Regarding your question on the large price difference between the reels you are considering, Daiwa has two linecounter reels on the market, the LC model and the SGLC models. Within these models Daiwa offers 3 different reel choices. The differences between the reel features are: LC (2 bushing drive, machine cut gears, aluminum spool, disc drag, gear ratio 5:1:1) and the SGLC model, (power mesh drive, machine cut-bronze gears, oil-retaining bushings, disc-drag spool click, gear ratio 4:2:1).
Cabela's pricing
47LC - 69.95
SG27LC - 92.95 - SG27LCW (W = dual paddle handle) - 94.95
SG47LC - 94.95
The major differences in the higher end reels, the SG27LC & SG47LC are the reel spool size & reel weight. The SG47LC has the capability of handing a larger capacity of line and for this reason many anglers like this reel for use with leadcore, as leadcore line has a larger line diameter. IMHO the most popular of the Dawia models is the SG27LCW, although I own both:).
Keys to consider as part of checklist before making your decision are the reels size, weight, line capacity, drag, gear ratio and gear components, and the spool.
The differences in the reels are explained on Daiwa's website, Daiwa.com You may do further research to find out which reel will best fit your needs.
Good Fishing to all!!!:)

Tim,
I'm worried that you may get the impression that the only difference between the cheaper 47LC and the more expensive GS27LC are the sizes. This is not correct. Most of the replies you have received, except for Figkms, may have misunderstood your question. Now if you are comparing the SG47LC to the SG27LC, the answers thay gave you are correct. The size is the difference.
But from the way I understood your post you made reference to such a big price difference and can only assume you are comparing two completely different reels here. The 47LC and the SG27LC. The 47LC is not and will not compare to either a SG47LC or a SG 27LC. Now the latter two are comparable and in the same price range, just different sizes.
Just hoping to avoid the same confusion I went through a couple of years ago.

Punch & figkms,
I stand corrected!
Thanks for pointing out the differences. I still wouldnt hesitate to by the 47's, mine have been around a good long time and never skipped a beat. I have one for at least 10 years now.
I really dont think you can wrong with either Diawa series.
Yes I did mean the difference between the 47lc and sg-27lc or sg-47lc. It seems the 47lc are good reels but the sg models are probably the ones I want. Perchjerker are you speaking of the 47lc or sg-47lc? Thanks everyone for all the help and tips I get from this site. Tim
