I am wondering if any of you know the water temperature under the ice where you are fishing?I also would like to know if you trollers go by water temps. or time of year to know when to start trolling.Either way, what is a good rule of thumb to decide whether it is "time" to troll or is it never "too" early? As you can guess I do very little trolling, but I started this last fall and was impressed by how productive it could be,especially at night.Apreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Hey Texeye,

One basic rule I use. The walleyes DO NOT read In-fish nor watch any instructional video's. That said, there are no rules when it comes to trolling and water temps. Tournament history, in almost any geographic direction and body of water type, shows the bad boys will hit trolling techniques of all sorts at ALL temps. My frozen hair in several situations, that ended very successfully, prove it is possible, more times than not. Those dog'on walleyes just don't know right from wrong some times.
