I'm taking the family to Clear Lake next month and would like to know what to exspect. I mainly fish for walleye but would also like to try for some pike and maybe a musky as well. Anyone have any helpful tips on what to try ect.. Its our first family trip so I'm trying to make this a good one

Thanks

on east okoboji there is only one walleye spot, it's on a point that comes out about half way down the lake on the north side.

If your looking for big walleye's stay on west okoboji. first check out the north end of the lake , then proceed down each side until you find out what type of bottom they are relating too. the north end is boulders and then it turns to gravel then to sand down in the south end.

good luck

Not trying to be a smart guy here, but I'm a little confused. Okoboji is over 100 miles west of Clear Lake. Are you planning on hitting both or do you just need info on one or the other?

Have Fish-on sell you one of his Iowa Fishing Atlas. It has some very good information about Clear Lake as well as West Okoboji, East Okoboji and Big Spirit Lake. Steve (IA)

Thanks for the bold-faced plug Steve! The fishing atlas books are the best place to start. And to Darin, I would suggest that you try a few more spots on East Okoboji, there are 8 or 10 more good spots I can think of off the top of my head. And Spirit is the better of the Iowa Great lakes right now for walleyes. Clear Lake, in northcentral Iowa, has good numbers, and June is a good time to go, but there isn't much going other than the walleyes and the yellow bass.

Bernie, I don't think of it as a "plug"... I live on East, have fished all of the Iowa Great Lakes for several years... but still carry a copy of your atlas in my boat! (by the way... let Darin fish stoney point and leave the other spots to us...) Steve (IA)

That's a great fishery. I took my daughter (16) and son (14) out of school tuesday of this week and fished bluegills on East. Since they are both 4.0 students, I treat them to a day off once in a while. We kept 22 huge bull gills, 9-10 inchers. Great fishery for so many different species. Wish I wasn't nearly two hours away. If I had more time, the big smallmouth are all over the points on West right now. Crappies are going in Angler's Bay of Spirit, and the smallies should be on Stony, Little Stony and Red Nose points of Spirit. Crappies should be going on Center lake too. And on and on. Oooh if I only had more time!!! I wish May lasted for six months!
