Good luck getting insurance. I could not get my company to give in. I also found out if you don't tell them and have a claim, they can deny it. I agree the boat can handle it. The same boat with a console is probably rated for a 150, so the transom can handle the weight. I was told by my boat company that the Coast Guard regulations are set and they have to follow them. The only way around it is with some kind of steering assist.

So if i put a mertins hydraulic steering on it-it would be ok with coast guard or no.**** i'll take the dam 115 stickers off and put 90 on then who would no.

If you put a Meartens system on, you would then have to have the manufacturer rerate your boat. It is quite a hassel. Also, you can not get the Meartens Power Tiller anymore, so it won't work anyway. I went through all this with a previous boat. I went ahead and took off the horsepower stickers also. All was well until I tried to get into a local fishing tournament. One of the tournament rules was the horsepower had to match the rating. When I went to have my boat inspected, I was removed from the tournament until I could prove what my motor was. Personally, I could care less what you run. I'm just relaying my experiences. I was informed by my insurance agent that fraud has no statute of limitations, so if you have an accident, they don't pay. I learned all this when they asked for the serial number for their records. Good luck!

The yami website does show the multi function tiller handle as an available option for the 115 hp. However, it is my understanding the variable trolling speed switch is NOT available in this handle for the 115hp.

The VTS is available in the multi function tiller handle for the 50 to 90 hp engines.

Nope. The use of either of the Mertens system, full power or Titan, will not get you a re-rating. Lund doesn't re-rate their under 20' foots, even if they supply a full power system. The only people getting away with it is Warrior, who have managed to get their Pro-Tiller system called a "remote steering" system. There are still full-power hydraulic systems available thru Mertens, until supplies of certain components last. The whole issue comes down to insurance, rather than the motor warranty. You can reach Tim Merten @ 920-231-6751.
