How do I link my F250 Yamaha to my Lowrance 28HD?
What motor info will be available?
Can I MPG & Temp?

I believe you can just purchase an engine interface cable, which is about $50, and run that from the engine computer to your Lowrancenet backbone. That is how I hooked my etec to the system. The info on my setup is GPS speed, hours, engine temp, trim height, voltage output, rpms, water pressure, and engine load. I think that is everything. Quite a handy item. I ordered the cable from Cabelas if your wondering. Bill

Can you get MPG without adding a sensor?

I forgot that one. Yes, you can. You just have to go into the menus a little bit after you get your custom gauge screen setup. The manual for the Lowrance will explain how to do it. I am sure it then just calculates fuel usage with the GPS data and gives you a reading. Did I mention the fuel usage in gal/hr as one of the initial functions?? I was amazed at some of these readings with my engine. Let me know if you have other questions. The MPG function is kind of depressing when you think of what your vehicle gets for gas mileage, but also a great feature when you are trying to find a good cruise speed for optimum fuel useage.

I heard that a I need to have command link gauges before I can link my Lorance, is this true?

I don't know what "command link gauges" are, but maybe Yamaha is different? Like I said, I bought the engine interface cable from Cabelas. There is a plug in coming off the computer on my Etec, hooked up to that and ran along the rest of the cables to plug it into the Lowrancenet system on my boat. That is all it took. The key has to be on, or the motor running, and then you can bring up the gauges on your Lowrance. Nothing to do with any gauges for the motor or boat. If you have other questions, call me (218)731-7994. Bill

You dont need command gages you plug into motor and into graph. I was thinking getting one but might not look to good on a 501c to small. Also be sure to get yamaha cable.. Hey BW what will your etec get your boat speed upto??

I am now running a 19 Viper and by myself with only a gallon of gas I hit 49.2mph. Consistently light I could run 48.5, but the Viper is more weight sensitve. With a full tank, 4 of us and a lab it is down to 46.5. It originally came with a 18p cyclone and the 4 blade carried the weight better, but RPM's were only 5000 and top end light was 47.5. I can run around 5400 with the viper now which is closer to recommended RPM range. I am happy with the 150 and it is a bullet out of the hole and with mid range. I contemplated the 175, but it was $1400 more and I didn't think it was worth that for a few mph. I also was able to be different and get the 150 in blue with the stars and stripes!!! It looks pretty cool!!!!!

Someone must have done this before?

Any help please.

I don't think you need the gauges, unless you want to spend a lot of money??? The $50 engine interface cable is listed on Cabelas for Yamaha, so it must do the same thing as the one I have. As long as you have the network in your boat to plug in to, you should be good to go!!

I hooked up a simple lmf-200 to a F50 and it shows engine temp, rpms, alternator voltage, fuel used in gallons per hour, trim as a % and engine hours. I add a memory module and have fuel used, fuel remaining ect.

I've read the yamaha gages will show more but the basics was all I needed. Nice info from the engine for the price.

I have my E-Tec hooked up to my Lowrance. Really cool information. However my motor has to be running for the EMM in the E-Tec to talk to the Lowrance. This drove me crazy for a week. I kept thinking I had a faulty component in the network. I talked to a lot of poeple and posted this on the "E-Tec Owners Group" board. Everyone told me that just the key must be in the "ON" position. Finnaly, I talked to Al at BRP Tech Support, he suggested I take my boat to the lake and start it up. BRP showed up on the "overlay data screen"
You will probably need 3 network Ts 2 termination caps, a fused power cable (unless you are powering your network through the Lowrance, then you only need 2 network Ts), an EMM cable to one of the network Ts and an output cable from the network T to the Lowrance. Unlike most upgrades we do to our boats, this one does not cost a weeks pay. You can probably do this for about $100.

riv,

I have a Yamaha F115 with an Engine Interface Cable going to my Lowrance network.
My setup will not keep track of Fuel Used and Fuel Remaining.
I basically use it to keep track of trim setting and engine hours.
I installed an EP-60 to keep track of my fuel.

I contacted Yamaha about this, last spring, and was told the "EIC" is not compatible with Lowrance networks and that all data retrieved should be considered false.

One example is that the engine temp will read higher than actual temp.
My trim gauge appears to stay linear though, so that is about the only thing I use it for.

Also last spring, while using a smaller pitch prop, I accidentally hit the Rev Limiter and got a nice little message on the screen stating so.

Hope this helps,
Don J
