I have two CoPilots because it seemed the battery always died when there was a hot bite and I didn't want to take the time to replace the battery then. Both started acting a bit weird a few days ago. They wouln't respond to a turn command and then would over-turn. Likewise with speed. Today they both went inoperative. Both have new batteries. The trolling motor batteries are new two weeks ago and show a full charge. The system works fine with the foot pedal. Soooo...do these things wear out after a period of time (two years of heavy use), or would the receiver possibly nead cleaning or replacement? Other? TIA

This has a really slim chance of working but, have you tried to re-program one (or both) of the remotes to the receiver on the TM?

If you have a friend that also has a co-pilot, reprogram both remotes to his CP unit. If there is no problem, then the problem is probably in the CP that attaches to the motor. If he is a good friend (lol), say thank you and... Oh by the way, can we now bolt on my CP and try it again. Don't forget to reprogram your remotes again. Good luck.

I didn't have any luck with the re-programming. That seemed like a long shot anyway, since it was happening with two sending units with fresh batteries. I sent an email to MinnKota customer service and got a fast, courteous response.
"The Co-Pilot unit shouldn’t ‘wear out’ so to speak, though it does sound as thought the issue would be in the receiver. The unit has a two year warranty from date of purchase. If you are within that, the unit could be sent to us and we would replace it as appropriate. If you are out of warranty then unfortunately your best option is probably to purchase new Co-Pilot unit as replacing just the receiver costs about the same as a whole new unit."
Now I have to find the time to get it done. I can fish with the foot pedal in the meantime, but it's not as convenient as the CoPilot. I can't really complain, because I've had the unit over three years and I'm constantly tweaking my path because the lakes I fish have sharp, erratic dropoffs.

Ron,
Is your unit a Power Drive? As I recall, the co-pilot on the PD plugs in to the existing plug in tandem with the foot pedal. I seem to recall having to clean and re-seat that plug a few times. If its a Terrova, how about unplugging the co-pilot, and plugging it back in?

I took the boat to Maxxum Rigging in Walker today in anticipation of having the unit replaced. I had cleaned the plug connection, but Gary cleaned it again (better) and made a few other tweaks. I put in at the Walker city park launch and it ran fine. I unqualifiedly recommend Maxxum Rigging in Walker to anyone who needs MinnKota installation or repair.
