I'm trying to figure out if you can do the following on the computer and move to my unit.
Want to be able to select a depth contour on a specific lake, create a route or track and load it into the unit?
Running an 1197 Humminbird and I have the Nav Planner software with Premium and Platinum chips for the lake I will be on. Pressed for time otherwise I would research more...was hoping someone may have done this?
Thanks in advance,
Mexico

I don't use tracks for the fishing I do but have had to create one when trying to navigate up a river that was silted in very badly on the channel in the lake. I Marked a waypoint every so often on the computer map then when I got to the lake I just followed the waypoints. I just went from one waypoint to another. I had no problems staying in the old silted in channel. Don't know if thats the way to do it or not, but it worked.

I use Fugawi for drawing tracks. Check out Doc Samson's site hightechfishing.com. There is a ton of good info on there.

Fugawi allows you to create tracks (trails) but you have to draw a line with a "pencil" tool. This is easy depending on the length of the contour.
You must import the map into Fugawi. The trail can be exported as a Lowrance, GPX, Google Earth (kml), and other formats. GlobalMapper can do what you want but you have to have the contour map digitalized. GlobalMapper can select one contour line for export. It can be done but it is not easy unless you have been working with mapping software.

Doc,
Do you know does Navionics have a PC based software that will display the same maps that we view via there mapping chips, that will allow us to make trails and or trace a contour etc. using a pencil tool or somthing similar like Fugawi does.
Somtimes it is hard to tell exactly what a software product will do or not do from the adds you see...
Thanks

Fugawi ENC will display Navionics maps and you can trace the contour and creat a trail. But why? If you have the map card you can see the contours on your GPS.
You can also use Navionics HotMaps Explorer to do this but you will have to buy the high definition maps separately as an add-on. This software has many of the Fugawi features.

Thanks Doc,
The reason I ask is so I can do better home work prior to a fishing or tourney trip.
My boat and gps unit are not here at home. It would be great to do it in my easy chair with my laptop.
Being a bit on the obsesive compulsive side I like to pour over the structure prior to my arrival and build a milk run of spots to check. If I dont I can start to wander during pre fishing and the next thing I know 3 days has gone by....

I used NavPlanner and loaded my Navionics Platinum chip in the supplied card reader, loaded the CD and it worked like a charm.

Was in a hurry and only did a couple passes, but this software is pretty cool. Need to find out how to zoom in more...

Hello Mexico,
I took a look at the link you posted, and Nav Planer seems like a great tool.
Couple questions:
What is the cost and does it have a tool that allows you to "freehand" a track or do you need to make a series of waypoints and then create a route.
Thanks

SonarMap has them for $129 and I like working with the guys there...they work closely with Navionics and have a deep understanding of the products.

Since I have only used this once, I am trying to answer the other question.
