I am looking at a boat with one these and am having a dealer do a pre-purchase check out. They are checking compression, looking in cylinders with scope, trying to do a leak down, computer history and checking lower unit. Anything being overlooked?

If they do all of that and find nothing wrong, I would think you are OK.
As a former 1999 150 Ficht owner, which was the problem engine, I would suggest you use nothing but 100% synthetic 2 cycle oil in the motor if you purchase the rig. I did an my motor was flawless for the entire 8 years I owned it.

Thanks for the heads up tip on the synthetic. The dealer doing the check up is a Etec dealer and he suggested I use XD-100 oil.

Not a bad choice. I believe that is a 100% synthetic product. This is what BRP says about it on their web site. "Evinrude XD100 is a premium synthetic fomulation that delivers ultimate performance while providing the opportunity to reduce oil consumption on most Evinrude E-TEC models with dealer programming."
