I am looking to replace a lowrance 16 ci with a high end sonar, of which model I do not know what one. I am looking at the garmin or raymarine both with multi function head that does radar,sonar and gps as long as you buy the necessary equipment to go along with them. My question is,,, If you had a few thousand to spend on your rig what would you go with? I have a 24' hard top sea ray. I have spent alot of money on it getting it back to todays standards and now want the best sonar that I can afford.
Thanks alot,
Ron
I really like the garmin with the touch screen but do not know if they make good sonar units.

Continue to look at Lowrance with the Broadband Sounder 1 for deep water. Also the new 2008 units have a Hardware Software Shallow water adjustment now. Like the LCX'c's 37 & 38 & 112 & 113. I use the sonar recordings on a SD chip and review it on my Computer later.

Also the hummingbird Side finding units are great. 987 SI & 1197 SI

I would wait for the 2009 units and have fun at the Winter Shows.

These are really Laptop computers getting better every years, look for Digital Sonar ( like the 2008 Broadband Sounder 1 in the units in 2009:}

I have a Vexilar Edge2. If I wanted a great color sonar I`d look at this: http://www.vexilar.com/pages/products/products_lc-507c.html

I`d look at Garmin or Lowrance for a GPS. Lowrance newer sonars lock up in shallow water.

If I just wanted sonar I would look at Furuno.

I will second Furuno most off shore fishermen choose Furuno. I do like my Vexilar, I also liked my old Lowrance X75. Shame my new X510c was junk. Glad its gone.
