I have never trusted myself in doing that, so I use a barrel swivel to make the connection. Two simple knots that I know work. Never did like the 'looks' of the blood knot, although most smarter than me have no problems with it.

You will probably get a lot of different opinions here but here are some ideas. You pick what works best for you.

If you are only using a short mono leader, less than the length of the rod, you can just use a barrell swivel. The lead core will be much easier to tie to the swivel if you strip the lead out of the dacron about 3 inches from the end of the leadcore. From there you can pick your favorite knot.

If you are going to use a longer leader, some folks like to strip out the lead and tie a uni knot. It wont catch on your rod guides but it can create an uneven spot on your spool. A knot for long leaders that I like involves stripping about 6 inches of lead out of your dacron. Then take the end of your mono and feed it inside the dacron until it butts up against the end of the lead. Then tie a simple overhand knot on the dacron about an inch above where the mono goes inside of it. Some people use a drop of superglue for insurance.

Hope this helps you. Good luck!

There is a good article in the archives that REW provided. I think it around page 576 in archives from general discussion. I am not very computer literate otherwise I would have provided the link. I personally use uni-knots or a number 12 barrel swivel.
