I'm looking to see if anyone with an '08 Ranger 620 with the 250 Verado is having the same issue that I am.
After I enter my code to activate the keypad I have to wait 20 seconds before the start button will turn the motor over. If I'm out on the water and want to restart the motor I have to hit the start button once then wait 20 seconds. If I use the start button on the throttle it will start immediately.
When I first picked up the boat I could hit the start button after one second and it would start now I have to wait.
Is anyone else having the same issue?
Right now Ranger and Mercury do not have an answer for me.
Thanks,
Brian

Ranger came out with a service bulletin this week to fix the issue I've had for four months. If anyone else has the same issue I believe the bulletin came out October 28, 2008. The work was completed today and I will find out this weekend if it works on the water.

Hadn't heard of that issue, but thanks for posting the info. That's good to know.
Let us know if it worked or not. :)

Are you aware of the Verado owners club?
www.veradoclub.com
They have techs on line and anything you need to know will be there.

I got out fishing this past weekend and everything worked like the day I bought it. Engine started immediately using the Ranger keypad.
The simple fix is there is a gray communication wire that goes from the Ranger keypad to the computer within the Verado. For some unknown (to me) reason my keypad was sending the communication to the Verado that it needed to "recycle" the computer. This recycle took 20 seconds so when I hit start button prior to the end of the "recycle" the Verado did not recognize the start message from the keypad. The fix is to completely remove the gray wire from the keypad to the Verado.
I have a couple of friends that have the exact same set up that I do and they have never had a problem.
All is good at this point.
