I run a 1997 mariner 60hp 2cycle tiller on a 1781BT YarCraft which is perfect for my style, ease of launching, etc. so I am not interrested in changing rigs.
This fits my needs nicely and normally the tiller handle position is not a problem for this old man that has sported a huge left arm since childhood. ( Tiller guys know what that means )
The problem comes about when I run 10 to 15 miles it becomes tiring and I wish the handle was a little longer and was up a little higher... things like that.
The prolonged position the stock handle puts me in tends to be uncomfortable on a longer run.

Has anyone found a good way to deal with this by some sort of upgrade or modification that won't break the bank and is dependable and safe?
I am not afraid of modifying the mounting of a different or later model handle to fit if it is close and looks good.

This is not a necessity but a "nice" thing. I am just begining to research this so all info is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I moved my seat back and to the starboard until I found a position that worked for me.

One way to take some of the strain off and an older tiller is to hook a bungee cord from the handle to the gunwail. You can adjust the tension by moving the bungee either way--toward the engine for less tension and toward the end of the handle for more tension. One cheap way to take the edge off....just enough to help!

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
It is not a torque issue at all.
I think it is more just the position I am at.
I'll check the seating position this weekend, but I am inclined to think it is just to low.
It gets better when I lift the handle at an angle while running.
My left shoulder is dropped a little more than my right ( Reaching? ) and I think that maybe is where it is coming from.
I have an air ride pedistal and maybe that is just a little to high also, but I would hate to give up the convienience / comfort.

I'm with DaveG , you may need to re-locate your seat, to find the "sweet " spot. Also, how tweaked-out is your motor mounting? If you went to a 4-blade prop (provided you aren't running one now) you could possibly raise the motor a hole or two, and lift the handle that way, plus reduce the torque some more.

I have the same problem and am looking into a sliding seat mount for my pedestal . That way I don't have to move my floor mount and and add more screw holes ! I have a 1996 Mariner 60 hp tiller . Bass Pro Shops have a slide for about 60 bucks.

Morton, I've found that with a cobra stabilizer helps reduce the torque, plus gives alittle more bow lift at slower speeds and at top speeds. It might be something for you to try also.

Installed the slider from Bass Pro today.
Can't wait to get on the water.
I'll ley everyone know how it turns out.
In the garage it seems like it will work
