Hey Perchjerker,
I see you have a new boat. I was wondering if you would say what model, and maybe some of the specs on it? I started looking at Grady Whites on their website, and it sure seems to be one I would love to own.

I run a Grady White on Lake Erie. An '03 SeaFarer 226 powered by a Yamaha F225.
Grady's are very nice boats, but they are pretty expensive new. Mine was a model year leftover. I found it at Beaver Park marina in Lorain Ohio while I was calling in search of a used 208 (I believe that is the model Perchjerker has). If your interested in buying one, I highly recommend finding a nice used one. IMO, the smartest way to go about it from a financial perspective. This is a buyers market, so you should be able to get a pretty good deal. Grady's have very good resale value, so if you can find a good deal on a used one, you won't lose much (if any) should you decide to sale it a few years down the road.
Any questions, maybe I can help.

How do Grady White's ride in Lake Erie chop?

IMHO the Grady has the finest ride of any boat I have ever been in. It can handle big waves and keep you safe and DRY! It is not fair to compare it to any aluminum hull so do not even try. Once you ride in a Grady you will compare all others to it. Yes I happen to sell Grady's but I have been in alot of different boats so like I said this is my honest opinion. I would say that even if I did not sell them. Contact me if you have any questions about them. joel@resortmarine.com

Grady is a fine boat. I think they are over hyped, and over priced. There are probably a dozen other boat factories that make the same quality boats as Grady, but they are going to cost just as much money, if not more money.
With the super high price of new ones, it pays to go used.

Im sorry I just saw this
My boat is a 1994. the biggest 21fter you are going to find.
I have been in a lot of boats, this one ranks right up there in quality. The first tiime I stepped in it I knew that. It was like walking on a concrete floor, its that sturdy
handles Erie just fine as you can imagine it would
I did not buy it for the hype, plenty of hyped boats out there. The quality spoke for itself the deal was there, the seller motivated so I bought it
another nice thing was that it came on a custom bulit Eagle trailer that was made for the boat in 2004.
not a lot of rocket science involved in the decision.
I would like to repower it one day if I can, but the motor runs fine. And ut has a Yamaha 4 stroke kicker which is very nice.

Yep. I know what you mean. The boat I had before my Grady was a 22ft Proline. When I first got in the Grady, all I could say was Wow ! Night and day difference between the Grady and the Proline. My Wife liked the Grady so much I had to buy it.
For it's class (22 ft walkaround cuddy), it has the best ride you are going to find. That's not to say there are boats that don't ride better, but they are a difference size and style. For instance, back in august I got smoked by a 31 ft Contender. That thing was like a missile going across the water. But it was also a 31 footer.
The Grady rides much better than my Proline did. Both boats (the Grady and Proline) were very close in weight, but the Grady has a 6" narrower beam, and 2 degrees sharper deadrise. Where the Proline would pound coming off a large wave, the Grady lands softly. Don't be fooled by the narrower beam either. Just because it's narrower doesn't mean there's less space. What people fail to consider is that Grady is a 3 piece boat, verses many others that are two piece boats. With a 3 piece boat, the space all the way out to the outer hull sides (under the gunwales) is utilized. With a 2 piece boat, there is alot of dead space between the inner liner and the outer hull. The design of the Grady allows them to incorporate toe rails, which now that I've had them, I don't think I ever want to do without them again.

Thanks for the info. It will be a couple of years before I step up to another boat. I am just trying to do my homework early.

I dare you to name one manufacturer that has the quality of Grady White. One will do if you can.

Would you like a ride on my 25ft Carolina Classic? I am sure it is of 'equal' quality to a Grady. LOL .

Tiara, Pursuit, Regulator, Contender, Fountain, Bertram, Hatteras, a bunch of others ... :-) They are nice boats but they ARE NOT the only quality boat. Oh, Carolina Classic also ...

While I may be a Grady White owner, I believe Grady is not the only high quality manufactorer. In addition to the names mentioned above, Steigercraft, Parker, Black Lab (welded aluminum), Dusky, Yellowfin, Cape Horn, McKee Craft, Everglades, Hydra Sports (Vector Series), Albemarle are just a few names that come to mind. There are others that I can't think of off the top of my head. Some of the ones I mentioned may not be as fancy as a Grady, but who needs fancy for fishing.
