I am wondering on how long does it take to get parts from Yamaha?? I have a T8 that is still under warranty ... So I took the part to my local yamaha dealer 4 weeks ago....I stopped this week and it's still not in ...... The dealer didn't have any idea when it would be in, all he said yamaha is always slow.... So I need to ask fellow WC members...... It that true??? WOW

the part in question is the locking lever tightener.... the one to keep your motor from moving freely...

I would hate to have a real serious problem with a yamaha motor ...... probably never get the parts!!!

any ideas??

I am a retired Yamaha dealer (1-1-08).
Sometimes certain parts were slow. Especially parts involved in recalls.
As a rule they were about like the other motor companies I worked with in terms of speed on parts.
I might suggest if the dealer feels that Yamaha parts are always slow then maybe he should stock more parts?

We have found the parts being slow a problem as well. We tried to get a block for a 115 4 stroke and couldn't find one in the US! Yikes, sold him a different brand of outboard instead.

T-Mac, love ya dearly, guy ... but I have to say the dealer I am going to buy a Ranger from told me the same thing ... "Yammies don't have many problems, but getting parts/help to fix them when they do is a real pain."

They are pointing me towards any other brand of motor.

As far as the dealer stocking parts ... man, I sure don't agree with that. Why should the dealer tie up their money in inventory to offset a Yamaha problem? That just won't fly. I can see why my dealer is steering me to another brand even though they say Yammy is a good product IF (and I say IF) what is being said in this post is correct.

Oh, and this is a very reputable dealer, too.

I guess I just don't remember any of the Motor companies being fast on "the part we needed yesterday". ;)

I carried lots of parts because we were a "point of use" type dealership.
Many of our customers had to drive a long ways to get to us.
Or ..if they were up at our lake, on vacation, and had a problem...it was really appreciated if and when we had the parts and could get 'em back out on the water (saving their vacation).
The more folks we could save a trip or a vacation for...the easier they were to get along with.
Then my stress level was lower.

That's why we tried to stock lots of (common) parts.

For my Yamaha parts and maintenance items I deal exclusively with Andy Jr at Shipyard Island Marina. Seems to have everything I need in stock, and takes a week or less to receive my orders via normal ground shipping.

Here's a link to their website: http://www.shipyardisland.com/

Here's a link to his forum on THT: http://www.thehulltruth.com/forums/forum-view.asp?fid=14 Check out the how to threads on this page. Good stuff.
