I bought a pair off Pinnacle Dead Bolt Pro`s model 25 series last fall, they were suppsed to stop where ever you let go of the handle, well I cant say how many fish I lost because when I went to set the hook , it free wheeled!!!!!!! They really let me down when its cold out, any one else having a problem?

Yes, it happened to me too. Someone told me if you change the type of grease in them it might help. Mine are a few years old so someone said to give them a good cleaning and change the grease and it MIGHT help with the problem. I really like the reels in the warm weather, unfortunately I cant say the same about the cold.

Funny that you mention it - the EXACT same thing happened to me this past weekend fishing the WWA in Saginaw. Went to set the hook and - oops, no anti-reverse!! This was the first time I'd used this reel. Cost me a couple of fish due to the slack (and subsequent MESS) upon the hook set. At any rate, it's going back to Cabela's this weekend. $90 reel and pure junk.

Unfortunately I have had similar problems as well as line twist. Returned mine for a Stradic. $100 is alot to spend for good quality but marginal performance.
I know this isn't it but thought I would ask anyway. You didn't by chance have the anti reverse turned off? there is the little switch that lets you back reel if you want. Just a thought I would ask. Kind of like asking, is it plugged in?

I have had the same problems with mine (I have 3 of them.) Although I have yet to loose a fish with them, my confidence has been declining in using these reels. I have tried cleaning and greasing to no avail. Also have lots of line twist. These reels are 3-4 years old now and I think that I will be purchasing different reels this season.

In a word - it is broken.
In the pinnacle dead bolts, there is a tiny spring, that needs to be in the correct place for the stop to work reliably.
If this reel, as is the case for many reels, is not properly maintained - the spring, can get locked up in dried grease. Then, if someone cleans and greases the reel that isn't familiar with the reel, either doesn't put the spring back properly, or gets it in the wrong place, will have a problem with the reel.
Unfortunately, there have been a couple instances of inspection problems with some of these reels, and I have seen two different reels, that came - incorrectly assembled from the factory.
I have also, seen where a couple of these reels, had the incorrect grease in them from the factory for fishing in these northern climes, where the temps can get into the 30's. The grease was simply too thick and would cause this mechanism to hang up.
With correct cleaning, all parts intact, and installed properly - the reels work wonderfully well and are very reliable.
I think that you do have to be a little bit careful with this brand of reels - with the possiblity of quality control - letting a reel - that may not be perfect slip through.
I expect that it happens from time to time with other products; it is just that I have seen a couple of examples of a fine reel - slipping through inspection - that really had not been put together correctly. However, once any of these reels had been properly assembled and lubed - they worked perfectly.
Take care

Rew,
I bought these as part of that PWT Package Deal Pinnacle has been doing at limited stores the past few years. Wonder if that has anything to do with the quality issue? I tend to avoid purchasing combo units because I feel that something (rod or reel) is sacrificed. Thanks for pointing out what the problem may be.
