Last summer I bought my first fish finder, a Garmin 160 Blue. Has a dual frequency transducer w /3 settings, dual, 200hz and 50 hz. Wouldn't have bought the blue had I realized it was for very deep water but after I got it and read the manual thought it would work on the depths I normally fish, 10-60 feet. Mounted the transducer on a portable bracket that attaches to the transom and the puck is about 3/8" below the boat bottom and parallel with it. The problem is when I get in shallow water, less than 8', moving slow or setting still seems like it looses its mind. Generally shows depth as several feet deeper than what it actually is. Going back to deeper water and accuracy is restored, or at least I think it is. Never actually measured. Could it be the 160 Blue is not designed to read shallow water accurately?

Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.

It could be that in shallow depths the 50Khz is messing up. Try to turn off the 50 and use the 200khz in the shallows if that's possible with the 160 Blue. 50Khz is a great frequency to use in depths over 30 feet or so. Hope it helps. Garmin support 800-800-1020 if needed.
