To Ann Landers

I feel like I'm writing to Ann Landers but I need some counceling. I really like to fish, no I love to fish so I bought myself a Pro V IFS with a 200HP water miller. Now my problem is everyone thinks I want to be a pro or at least act like one because of my purchase. Do you guys think I was wrong in this kind of boat? I can afford it, I like nice things, I work hard, and dog gone it I think I deserve it. Just don't want people to think that I am trying to be a hot shot when I am out on the water.

I think you need to get some new friends, or at the least not be so sensitive as to what others think!:)

If you can afford it, by all means go for it! I bought a tricked out boat last fall myself, my friends cant wait to go fishing in it!!

If you can afford it, and it is what you want, go for it! WHat others think of you shouldn't really be part of the equation (unless its your wife---what they think is often more important in terms of peace and harmony than we believe!--Are you listening Hon??)
We all have our individual pastimes and preoccupations that we pursue for recreation or diversion. Some golf, hunt, hit the bars, casinos, collect stamps, etc. Whatever you choose , its your time and money involved, it should be what you really want. Otherwise, why do it?

You've got that "guilty American" disease. There will always be people who are greater and lessor that you. The greater don't care and the lessor will try to drag you down to their level because they don't have the brains or ambition to rise to your level. IGNORE THEM! I have a wise friend who says it's "mind over matter". "I don't mind cuz they don't matter." Like the above post says, find new friends because the old ones weren't true friends. A friend accepts you for what you are, not what they would like you to be.

My wife worries about what others think, I brought home my 2001 2025le w/225 and 15 hp kicker and that's all I heard,"don't they make a bigger motor, what are going pro, we see who's got all the money, lets see I don't think I took any of them fishing last year and they won't be going this year either. Get new fishing buddies.

I agree, I just got the same rig and have had some of the same feelings. I got over them fast because I don't gloat and brag and I bet you don't either. The reason you and I have felt this way is somebody along the way has and rubbed it in your face! Remember you are not that kind of person. I for one would be glad to share a boat with you and you are always welcome in mine!

Enjoy and savor the new boat, it is an experiance that truly worth every minute!

Good fishing!

Eyebuster is right! screw em' Would they rather you bought a 77 glastron or what. I wouldnt even take a man or woman in my boat if they cut it down. ##### right your trying to go pro why not? All you gotta do is fish, fish, fish.

Just fish good, you'll be fine. LOL
Enjoy that rig. They are just jealous.

I bought the same boat that I think Perchjerker just bought but a few years ago. I heard some of the same things from people. Let it roll of your back and have fun with the new boat. One of the main reasons I bought the bigger boat is I feel saver in it as 90% of the time I am fishing alone on WINNEBAGO.

Your friends are suffering from the dreaded sickness called boat envy. I use to have a bad case of it also. You drive down the road looking at what everyone else has that you want.

I took 2 aspirin, bought a Lund Pro-V with all the extras, a Ford diesel Excursion to pull it ; and I was cured. Other peoples toys no longer seem to bother me.

Tell our friends to go see a doctor, I mean a boat dealer.

I agree. You may be sensing things that are not really true unless they have said it directly to you. There is another appropriate saying, "You'd worry less what others thought of you if you realized just how seldom they do." Just go fishing and enjoy, you've earned it!

You should be ashamed at yourself! Buying a nice big boat like a Pro V. All that room, comfort, and horsepower. Real men fish outa boats made in the 60's. And when youve had a long day on the water your back should hurt from sitting on that hard wood bench...blah blah blah...could someone pass me the sugar for these sour grapes..LOL

All kidding aside you should be able to buy what ever you please. Enjoy your new boat and dont offer to take your so called friends on the water with you. Congrats on a great purchase.

They're probably right....email me your address, and I'll stop by and rid you of your "little problem". ;)

Seriously - if you like it, and can afford it, and the boss at home is cool with it, GO FOR IT! You're not hurting them or anyone else by indulging in your chosen leisure activity. There is nothing you can do about their jealousy. With true friends, this should not be an issue.

Congrat's on getting a great unit, by the way.

There's no problem here. In fact I encourage you to buy a nice Lund shirt and sew a few patches on it. Put your name on the motor and get a few decals for the side of the boat. No use your friends having to be half concerned about it! I have the same problem with my friends back home. You show up with a new Ranger and half the town shows up to take a look. Then come the comments. Ah the joys of being on the top of whatever game they are playing. Enjoy it. I started out in a very old and narrow 12' Alumicraft and a 7.5 hp Martin outboard. Fishing was as much fun then at 18 as it is now with the fancy boat and being 47. That is the only thing that counts!

I had to reply to this one. About 3 1/2 years ago I went throught the Big D. I was having a tough time and a friend offered me his boad to buy. It had everything in it. My parents thought I had lost it. But on my time off it was my salvation. I would go to a new lake every month and see things in a new light. I took my dad to Fort Peck for 5 days and we where running down the lake and 50 MPH and he turned over and looked at me and said, "Now I know why this was so important." Never again a question about the size and money on my "toys". If it make you happy and whole who cares!

Shoot I think your all full of BULL! I'd raz you and any of my fishing buddies about having a rig like that.

However, "Without a wish, there is no dream." So hopefully someday with hardwork and/or talking the old lady into another part time job- LOL, I too may be able to afford the dream rig as well.

I'd have to believe that half of the enjoyment in owning a rig such as your new one, is knowing that guys like me are so envious. Congratulations.

The responding posts sound like you are vindicated.

I especially agree with the ones that said "They are jealous", the ones that said "It is none of their doggone business", and the ones that said "Your life is YOUR priority ... live it like you want".

To add to that, there is the "OOOOM" theory ... "SCROOOOOOOOOM!".

ENJOY!!

It is obvious to me that you will never be able to enjoy this boat, say nothing of the potential hazzard it represents. I submit that you will dangeriously overload this boat if you try to board with that whopping guilt complex. It will no doubt sink at the dock. But I have a solution. As your new friend and not being prone to guilt feelings I will agree to keep the boat a my place for no fee.
I will even pick the boat up at your place. When you want to use the boat just give me a call. My number is included with my bio. :)

People are like crabs. You can put crabs in a wicker basket together with no lid on it and none of them will escape. The reason is that as soon as one crab gets near the rim of the basket another will climb on its back and they will both fall back in.

Buying this boat has put you at the rim of the basket.QUICK, shake off those other crabs and jump out before they pull you in.

Enjoy your boat!!! You deserve it if you have worked hard enough to afford it.

I agree with everyone else. If your wife or significant other (or maybe even both ;) ) are cool with it, that's all that matters. Life is too short to try and please the people who in the grand scheme of life aren't that important. Worry about the people who truly care about you and you will have succeeded. ANd most importantly, make sure you're happy. As a side note, I'm extremely proud of you and anytime you're in MI with that boat, I'll prove it!

If EyeJacker changes his mind, I'll help take your "guilt" away. Sounds like you have a dream machine. Use it, clean it up, use it again, clean it again. Before long those feelings will be just a memory that were replaced by those made in your boat. Enjoy!!:)

A buddy of mine confided to me in a miller-lite haze that "I really don't care if I am good, I just want people to think I am good". It was pretty funny...had to be there. He has all the toys and will struggle on a good bite. He loves when area locals follow him around from spot to spot.

Congrats! I just did the same thing. My boat is scheduled for painting on April 4th. Hopefully I will be pulling it home a few weeks later. Lund Pro V 2025 SE with one of those black things hanging on the back!

Just don't get embarassed the first time out when you come back to the dock and the guy next to you in the 1968 tri-hull limited out while you got skunked! LOL!

Don't forget, the boat does not catch the fish, the fisherman does!

If your buddies are not happy for you and your new boat and are not sharing in your joy and not making you feel good about your purchase get a different set of buddies or get a dog............... Good luck with the new unit and enjoy it.

I got that attitude from some of my family members which even makes ya a little more ticked because I was taking them out to do a little fishing .
Jealousy has no place in my life I have a hard enough time keeping track of all the other things in life without being jealous of someone else and I usually let the thoughtless remarks roll right off .

Remember one thing. You work to support yourself and family if you have one. My dad always told me that every time you get your check the very first thing you need to do is pay yourself. It dosen't matter how much but give yourself something first, you work everyday for it, so you deserve some of it. Now if your able to save some of that to buy a boat, even if its by a loan so be it. Remember you earned it, it something you have wanted so get it. Most of the time people get upset because they are jealous because maybe they can't save money or maybe they have differant priorities thats their business. If they don't like it, too bad. Just make sure they don't go in it.

I hope you enjoy your rig. you've earned it.
