View Full Version : Discharging Batteries
I have a battery charger I would like to try out, but my two TM batteries currently have a full charge. Any easy way to partially discharge these batteries? I only have the batteries - no motor or anything at my house.
Thank you for any ideas

Do you have a spare headlight and a couple pieces of wire?

Either what Phil said or go buy a cheap spot light with alligator clips at Wal-Mart. Run it on each battery for about 10 minutes. That'll do it.

I third the comments on the head lights.
If you don't have a spare head light - go buy one for one of your vehicles. Preferably one which is likely in the nearest term need for replacement.
Use aligator clips to the batteries and you will be good to go.
The nice things about using headlights for a load source, is that the head lights are self testing. i.e. when the lights get dim, it is time to take off the battery, because you know that the voltage is down to about 8 volts.
The light will get very warm, so it would make sense to lay the light on the concrete garage floor, or some other insulator. Don't leave it on the floor of your boat, on a work bench --- etc. because it could potentially start a fire from the heat.

Get a 12 volt trouble light. This will have many other uses as well when working on something around the car/truck.
