it's almost 2009 now far cry from 2000 units.

While in it's day it was a great unit ~ 2000. Say a monochrome high resolution CRT display great detail.

I loved my 1967 MG Midget in it's time. I don't what that now. Kudo's to the Genetron co to be on the cutting edge for a long time.A monochrome high resolution CRT{like a GENETRON} would have no trouble either showing fish arches.

Now we have over a decade of computer memory & great sonar units getting better by the year to display in color and better detail to record now.:raisin:
I love our color units.

That was a great deal on the Genetron GT-9 on IDO.
Who cares about color and the many features that 90% of us do not use. Look at all the Lowrance problems on this site alone, I am not bashing Lowrance as I own 4 of their units, one with color. I have just purchased a Genetron and have not yet powered it up, but if it helps me see bottom hugging fish then it was worth the purchase. That is the main reason I have sonar on my boat, to find fish, all the colors and features in the world don't do any good if it does not see bottom hugging river fish.

I think what you're trying to say here is that you would like a unit that would be "easier" to spot bottom hugging fish. My opinion is that there are guys on here that can find bottom hugging fish and if the truth were known, you would find that there would be many many units that can do this. The trick to success in my mind is to become so familiar with a unit that you can readily understand what the unit is telling you. That comes from spending multiple hours on the water caching fish but still paying attention to what the unit is showing you so you could recognize it again in the future thereby creating successful fishing more often. "Easy" is a relative term as I suspect that there are many on here that can find bottom hugging fish with a Flasher, A monochrome unit, or one of many color units. That has come from hundreds of hours of fishing and being able to put all the pieces together. It would probably be real hard for someone to master all the brands and consistantly put it all together. I guess my point is, pick one your happy with, no matter the brand and master it. We could argue for years who makes the best unit but we would all be touting the one we are most familiar and successful with which don't mean squat to anyone but ourselves. There isn't a person on here that doesn't know, if there was a perfect sonar unit that could reliably pick fish out every single time and help you catch them, ALL others would be out of business. Thats my 2 cent honest opinion and thats exactly what it's worth!!

Crappieman, for the most part, has it right. Whatever unit you have needs to be perfectly understood in order to get optimum performance.

BUT!! Kinda interesting the timing here....as just a few evenings ago, I was invited to fish walleyes with a "quite well known" Brainerd angler. We took his Lund 2025 decked out with several well known high end graphs. 2 on the dash and one on the bow. Without asking, just in case there was some interest, I brought a portable Genetron set-up along. And for the fun of it, he agreed to allow the GT-9 ducer to be screwed onto his ducer mounting plate on the transom, along side the "other" 2 ducers. And we went fish hunting. The GT-9 clipped to the main battery and mounted on a chunk of 2"x12" setting on the floor next to the console. In the end, most of the fish the GT-9 saw, the "other" unit showed too. IF--in many cases, you knew what to look for. And many times with a "maybe". No maybe on the Genetron. It was CLEAR that a fish was under the boat. But about a half dozen times, the ONLY sign of fish showed up on the GT-9. And we proved it every time. The walleye chomped on the big redtail immediately!

Yes....crappieman is right. But in the case the other day....we had a limit for 2 instead of a limit for 1--because we didn't drive by any walleyes.

Now, lol, I'm not gonna prolong this discussion anymore. But years back, before Dick retired, my opinion was dismissed here because I was "sponsored" by Genetron on the PWT. As I said then and will now....I never received a dime from them! And surely can't influence sales now. lol It's the harsh reality. (no matter what Vern says!lol) The ONLY thing that counts is what the livewell looks like in the end.

Again, WELL said Crappieman!

And by the way...the one you see advertised on IDO in another posting here? I bought that unit last March. THAT was a steal....

Steve,
I e-mailed you for some tips on using the Genetron and am wondering if you received it as I have no reply yet.
As for targeting fish close to the bottom read what is said about the business card in this chat with Genetron's owner, here is the link.

Steve,

I will e-mail you again shortly as I have been watching the last PWT tourney from my boat. I have seen 2 maybe 3 Genetrons perched next to their 10" Lowrances so they are still being used by pro's beside yourself.
