i have a 2004 f115 yamaha, and it has been a great motor, a few months ago i noticed when i would take the motr pass 1/2 throttle and run it awhile, after i came back down to a slow speed, i noticed a whistling noise, kinda sounded like an air leak coming from the motor was wondering if anyone ever experienced this. the funny thing is if i tirn off the motor and turn it back on right away, the whistling sound goes away.
thanks for any help

I did a quick search on WC on "Yamaha Noise", and found a possible remedy - empty the water and fuel separator.

I have heard this type of noise on the last two F90 Yami's I have owned. I always thought it was squealing noise coming from the timing belt. I am now curious as to how a water seperator can create this noise. Perhaps I need to check that out.

My F150 will do that if the water is cold. Not sure if it is the same noise. The water pump makes that noise, but if it idles for a minute or two the noise goes away. It started after about 200 hours on the motor.
I'm guessing what your hearing is the "squeal" that is unfortunately quite common with the "F" series motors, both of old and new. Do a search for "Yamaha squeal" on this site and you will get quite a bit of info on it. Seems quite common amongst owners and is not a mechanical threat if it is the same "squeal" that many of us have been dealing with. My best description of it was that it sounded like a belt slipping/sqealing, similar to what you would hear in a car engine. If this description is what you are hearing, then I am guessing that the search will give you some background on the issue.
i had the same issue with my f90.when i was in canada this summer there was a crew of yamaha techs that came to camp to service the camp yammies.one of the guys was from japan and didn't speak english but thru the other 2 guys i was able to tell him what my engine did sometimes. i said it was the belt but he said it was a bushing on the driveshaft that made the noise.he said the fix was to have my dealer lubricate it or even remove it.they lubed it and the problem is solved.

You are correct Rudy.
Slide the rubber boot back and shoot it with a good spray lube every once in a while.
Everyone I now who has a Yamaha 4 stroke has had this noise at some point.

I did a search as suggested and read all the posts. On some of the posts there were links to photos of the location of where to lube. None of the links worked for me. I think "went522" and "birddog" referred to photos of this location. If you guys are out there, can you re post the photos ? Much appreciated.

Yes...I had the photo posted in the old album but never did transfer it over...lost forever?? I'll run out and take some pics of the culprit quick and post it in the new album. Most of the issues I've heard of and dealt with myself came from that bushing, Silicone spray takes care of it for a few weeks but it will come back. I finally had my dealer pull the bushing, they replaced it so it would be a warranty claim and greased the pizz out of it. Not one squeel since.
Here's the link to the photo. http://www.walleyecentral.com/forums/album.php?albumid=43&pictureid=733

Thank You !! That is a terrific photo. I can finally get rid of that annoyance with simple silicone spray. Even if it is only for a few weeks. I think I will just sray it prior to every trip.
