I am new to in-line muzzleloaders. Is there a good substutute grease for the threads on the breech plug? I was wondering if bore butter would work will for it?

I use T/C (Thompson Center) Breech Plug Lub. It comes in a small tube. Works pretty well.

I have used Knight Breech Plug Lube as well but personally I don't think it works as well as the T/C stuff.

In a pinch with I could not find the T/C nor the Knight (both were sold out locally for some reason -- probably "off season") I used an automotive heat resistant anti-sieze lube. The stuff I used was Permatex Anti-Sieze Lubricant from an auto parts store. Worked ok, but I wouldn't want to use it all the time -- it was runnier than the T/C stuff.

I have used the bore butter going on 15 years now - just don't over tighten when re-installing.
