I've a 580 and it's been faultless. Not very helpful I know, but the current Humminbirds seem to have less problems than the current Lowrances.

I hope you get some feedback. I also have been looking at this unit as well as the Eagle502C.

I got it just before out trip in September. I had an older Humminbird prior and liked it. But, I absolutely loved the 595c. I took my old unit out of the portable kit and installed the new one. Only a couple minor modifications to the case so I can easily plug in the GPS puck. No room for it in the case.

I didnt have detailed maps of where I was but it really didn't make a difference. Having the waypoints with the GPS was absolutely awesome. I used the GPS much more than I thought I would. I also really liked the color monitor vs. my old gray scale unit.

My only gripe is the power consumption. My portable case uses 6v lantern batteries. I essentially went through 2 batteries (one set) each full day I used it. I didn't take that many so I had to shut it off a few times when I was fishing the same area for awhile.

For the price I don't think there is a unit that can compete. Cabelas had it for about $300-$350 with a rebate. Not sure what it is now? But, for a GPS unit with updatable maps that is outstanding.

Good luck with it.
