I need to winterize my 90 Opti and I have seen posts that say to use fogging oil in the cylinders. What is fogging oil and where do you get it? Can I use WD40 instead? What are the steps and how much do I spray in?

you should be able to get it at any good marine shop... The instructions are on the can, but basically you spray it in each carb til the motor floods and stops. Then take out each plug and spray in each cylinder. Then hand turn your motor over to coat all surfaces...

here are part of the instructions from your owners manual. Wait until you go buy the Quickleen for the fuel system winterization. $16 @ Bass Pro last night. ouch.

I buy my fogging oil at any local auto parts store

its a common item usually next to the fuel stabilizer

Just my 2 cents worth. I would not fog an opti. I'd treat the gas. Run quick clean into the injectors. Replace the fuel filter/water seperator and call it good to go.

If your engine has an oxygen sensor in one of the cylinders, then it is not advisable to spray fogging oil into a running engine. Treat your gas, and then pull the plugs out and spray fogging oil into each cylinder. Spin the engine over a few times and youare good to go.

I would check your owners manual first.
According to mine, you remove the spark plugs, add 1 oz of opti oil to each cyl, reinstall plugs, and turn the motor over by hand several times to distribute the oil. Be sure to add a fuel stabilizer and Quickleen to the gas, run the motor to get that stabilizer into the motor. It's easier to do it that way than removing the fuel filter and poring it in.

GMC,
I would add one caviat to the use of oil in the cylinders.
I do as you advise with one difference.
I tilt up the motor, add the oil and then turn over the engine by hand, before installing the spark plugs.

It is possible that if you get too much oil in a cylinder - replace the plugs, you could possibly have a hydralic lock in one cylinder due to excess oil.
By tilting up the engine, and rotating the engine by hand, the oil will stay in the cylinders, but if you happen to have gotten excess oil in a cylinder, it will simply be blown out the spark plug hole - as well as being distributed all along the cylinder walls and piston walls.

Very good idea and very important to minimize the possibility of gummed up and or rusted pistons.

Take care

I just checked my owners manual and I was incorrect. Turn the motor over, then reinstall the plugs. I guess my memory is not that good anymore. I always check my owners manual before I do mine but hopefully, I am about a month away from winterizing.
I never have fouled out the spark plugs doing it this way. In fact, I was quite surprised there was little smoke and it idled very smooth, on the first startup in spring.
