Am switching from mono to braid using sg27lc's was using Stren mono with Dacron backing what kind of backing and what type of knot do you use with the newer braid lines.

Dacron, which is already on the reels, will work fine. Attach the new superbraid with uniknots. Actually, for maximum line length, just fill the reel with the superbraid ($$), and superglue the end to the spool so it can't slip. One drop will do the trick.

The best knot, for almost any situation, is the Palomar knot. Especially good when dealing with superlines.

Paulisan 1,
I'm not sure what new line you are looking at putting on your reel, but don't ignore PowerPro. I've tried the rest and have found the best by a long shot. PowerPro's website www.powerpro.com has a knots page withe their suggestions on the superbraids. Goodluck! Pat

Hey Paul, I agree with Jerry. Can use your Dacron still as backing. I can't remember how many setups you have, but be sure you have the same amount of backing on each of your reels to keep them all consistent. If not, then I would respool with new backing with the same amount of line. And also use the Palomar knot for all my terminal tackle connections to braided line.
I have been using Fireline for the last couple of years, even those Huron Hogs came on it. However, again, listen to Punch1, I believe PowerPro is better than Fireline, not by a large margin but worth checking out.

Paul..I would also recommend the PowerPro. I've tried them all and have found none that compare. I run the 30# (8# dia.) on my sg27lc's and have found that the 300 (330?) yd. spool fills it nicely. I put a couple wraps of surgical tape on the spool first to keep the line from slipping. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
