I'd hate to see Steve start drinkin' :) so I'll take a short stab at this. On the color,(NOT BOBBER COLOR, refering to jig or spinner color) Pick your favorite and put it in their face, if they don't like that, pick your next favorite and do the same. A good rule of thumb is brighter(chartruse etc.) colors for stained or dirty water and more natural colors for clear water. Personally I like white, it's like the best of both worlds. You can never know they might want hot pink on day and turn there nose up at it the next day, you just have to keep trying. They'll let you know with a tug on the line if they like it. Now as far as the bobber slipping down stream. Personally I want my bait to appear as natural as possible and that would meen moving at the speed of the current. I don't use bobbers in swift current but I will let the wind push it over points or rock piles, or allow eddys to pull it in on current breaks. The bobber is only a depth adjustment. I've caught alot of fish quickly after popping the bait loose fom a snag and it starts drifting again. This is how I approach these issues. Hope this helps...

I 2nd the comment on the bobber moving down the river with the current and following the current in a natural way.
It is rather interesting to follow the bobber and see what the current in the river is doing at various spots. There are many spots - when you figure that the river is just pouring down stream. But now and then, you will find that there is a back water, an eddy, or rock, wing dam - or what ever - such that the current stops, backs up, and swings either out or inward on the river.
Many of these spots where the current either changes direction or speed - are often ambush points for the walleys - and it is nice to have a simple thing as a bobber help you locate these key ambush spots.
Think like a fish -- they only have one thing on their mind -- one might believe -- that is where their next meal is coming from. They will try to position themselves in such a spot - that the meal will fall right into their mouth.
As is the case for any predator - they want the most for the least effort. They live longer that way.
So, when you troll, jig, live bait, or what ever - think underwater - as to what your bait is doing - and is it doing the things that will seem to be an easy meal for a Walleye?? If not - change your presentation - so that it is -- and you will likely start catching more fish.
Take care

I feel I should clarify on the color issue. I was refering to colors with all applications not just fishing with slipbobbers. I don't fish spinners with bobbers:) Sorry for the confusion....
