Hey guys i need to pick our brains a second. The last couple time out my Yamaha F115 has been cutting out on me. The first time it was at idle and It just shut off. I got a steady alarm when I went back to start it up. The primer ball wasn't hard so I pumped it and it started. As soon as I got up on plain (WOT) the motor cut out, recovered and cut out and so on. After putting it in neutral and starting over it ran good at a lower RPM as soon as I reached WOT it did it again. The thing is when it cuts out the motor recovers real quick. Once the motor is warmed up the problem goes away until the next time I get out. So I have a hard time believing there is air in the line or a fuel pump problem. I have replaced the primer ball and checked all battery connections.
Thanks for your time. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Jeff,
You mentioned it "alarmed' after the first time it died at idle. When you say it "alarmed", was this the motor alarm and did it stay on continuosly before you started it again or after you started it? The alarm is a possible clue, so I wanted to be clear as to the duration of the alarm and under what conditions it alarmed?

It was the motor alarm. It stayed on continuously until the motor started. Could this be a thermostat issue of some sort?
Check fuel tank vents, and fuel filters. The way your describing it, it sounds like you can get enough gas to run your motor when it's using low 'volumes' of gas, but when the motor requires a higher volume, your gas is being restricted.
If your gas tank vent is plugged, your could be building negative pressure in the tank, which eventually is higher than what the motor can overcome trying to feed it. Same with a partially plugged gas filter.
The alarm, could just be low oil pressure when the motor has stopped running??

Shot in the dark but maybe your sucking air and overheating it and that's what motor alarm is trying to tell you. One of the first times out with my boat I went WOT and kept trimming up to see how fast I could get it and motor shut down with alarm. I thought for sure I ran it out of oil but manual said lack of water because I was cavitating the water intake. Maybe your intake is clogged up too causing it to act up at odd times. Just a thought and easy to check by watching for water spraying out nice and steady or even stuck thermostat giving you trouble.

First thing I thought of was lack of oil.

Oil is fine. I should've called it "chugging" not "cutting out". The alarm happens when i turn the key. Not before and not after it has started. Once the motor has ran for a half hour or so, it goes away and runs great the rest of the day. I made some miner adjustments and going out tonight to give it a try. If that doesn't fix it, i'll take it in and have it looked at.
Thanks Jeff

Ok, if the alarm is constant, then it's probably a oil or temp issue. The motor has a computer that keeps trouble codes in it. Take it in to a dealer and have the engine diagnostics computer codes read. From what you've stated, I don't think this one is going away without a dealer looking at it.

I had a similiar problem. In my case it was a crack in the fuel filter housing allowing air into the fuel line.

Mine will chug or bogg when the water/fuel seperator needs to be changed. If you have one.No alarm sounds.
