Does anyone know of a rod holder you would use for trolling that would attach to a cleat on your boat? My son has this ranger and it is new to him. God forbid you drill a hole to mount a rod holder! You see, this is his first season with his first boat - heck - he doesn't think twice about where/when I should drill into my pro-v! So, I told him I would ask all my knowledgable friends on WC regarding any rod holders that attach to the cleat of a boat. Thanks in advance.

The cleats on my ranger are in good spots for cleets/bad spots for holders. If your looking for trolling I would lookinto Fold-N-Troll Multi-rod holder. You can spread 4 rods off the back using the seat mount allready in the floor/front of the boat.Have seen them used on little bay but didnt try them as I have rail mount holders.I found this product ez on cabelas but Im sure they have a website. They also fold up when your done.

I don't know of any cleat mounted rod holders. Does he have rails on his boat?

not exactly sure the locations of the cleats, but maybe he can u bolt a board to them that runs across the transom and mount the holders to that.
I have heard that the one that mounts to the seat socket that was mentioned was not very sturdy, it was on a post here someplace, but they could be mistaken also.

My Yarcraft stern cleats do the job. They support a carpet-wrapped, treated wood 2x6 laid across the motor well area and U-bolted to the cleats. The 2x6 has mounted upon it a row of 6 rod holder bases, two downrigger mounts and 2 more cleats. That's the only way I know to mount rod holders on cleats.

Check out in-a-snap rod holders. No drilling necessary. I have seen them, however I have not used them

I have several old Walleye Insider magazine from the mid 90's.I found an add for a rod holder that snaps into a cleat. It is called "IN-A-SNAP"..Address is 10732 James Madison Hwy.,Bealeton, Va 22712..Phone number is 877/IN-A-SNAP...Their web site is www.in-a-snap.com....Now I am not sure if they are still in business or not...I bet there are alot of other guys that would like to have some so they don't have to drill holes in their boat...Good luck and good fishing.

Looks like they have different models to fit different cleats. It isn't obvious how hard it is to attach and detach them.
I have been thinking about making some to fit my boat as I don't want to drill big holes for flushmounts and I don't want anything sticking up over the gunnels that would interfere with the cover. That means they need to be easy to put on and take off.

Heck, a boat isn't even yours till you have drilled your first couple dozen holes in it. ;)
My most traumatic hole on every new boat is the big hole in the side for the 1800 GPH bilge pump I always add to augment the factory ones.
