I have a friend looking at buying a Crestliner with a 1995 Merc 200 EFI. Does this motor have a good track record or is there somethings that would make him shy away from this motor. It does have low hours. Thanks

I know a couple of people that run 200 efi's and love them from the 90's on bass rigs and pushed hard on tourney day with no problems. Was told by a marine mechanic once while looking at a used boat with a 98' 200 efi merc. that those motors were some of the best that Merc. built and said he personally would not hesitate to buy one for his own.Of course that being assumed a good look over, ran and tested good, and if wanted for extra security a check by a good marine mechanic and it has passed with flying colors.

A friend of mine had a 99 200 EFI, the motor was thirsty but bulletproof, my buddy and I know the guy who had the boat when it was new and he never had any troubles either in the time he had it. 8 years of no problem I'd say it's a good motor, fast too.

I've never heard any bad things about any of the Merc EFIs (other than the thirsty part). I'd have a compression leakdown test done and run it before I bought it.
