I've been hearing about the "weapon" being used on Lake Erie, and wonder if any one can give me any info on what they are and can you make your own?
Thanks,

Just cranked a dozen out last night. You can buy all the components at a good tackle shop,or B.Pro,Cabellas etc.The sequence is a #4/6 hook, then 4 beads(3/16th)a clevis and 1/2"gold blade then another bead.run the leader about15" and tie a single knot loop enclosing another bead in the loop.make the loop about three inches long, because you will then thread a 1 oz lead bullet weight on the loop.I then add a good swivel too keep the weight on and help with twists
A side profile actually looks a lot like a mayfly, the intended imitation.there is a good rig similar to this on the market in the Lake Erie area sold as the weapon, good luck, wet nets!
I do basicaly the same thing but, put the weight on my line ahead of a snap swivel (usually 3/4 oz egg sinker) and I also will try other blade colors, firetiger, chart/green ... I use a larger hook also 1 or 1/0 and I shorten leader length if I am casting to reduce tangles
good luck & tight lines :)

What type of live bait do you normally use with the weapon when fishing Erie?
most of the people tip them with worms, but all that is needed is just a piece of worm, not usually the whole thing. good luck and good fishin.

Hmmm, sounds interesting. I think I'll make up a
few and see if the New York eyes like them.

When I fish the Weapon, all I do is add about 1 1/2" of worm and let out about twice the amount of line as the depth of water I am in. Then I put the pole in the rod holder and drift. Some people use it with a bottom bouncer and some jig it. I even know one guy who uses a bobber and suspends it a couple of feet above the bottom. All have been very productive. Sometimes, it seems too easy. Good Luck

Does anyone run the Berkely Power nightcrawlers on these rigs? Seems like it might work pretty well.

Does the color of the beads seem to make much difference? Thanks
