I have used Sea Foam for years and I know there are many discussions on Sea Foam vs Stabil. With that said a local dealer told me yesterday to not use either one for storing my 2008 Yamaha 75 4st efi. He said that Sea Foam will develop a gray paste substance on the injectors and fuel pump/filter. He said that during inservice seminars from Yamaha they said not to use Sea Foam or Stabil and to only use Yamaha fuel conditioner.

Has anyone every had these problems or have heard of this? I have already put the Sea Foam in and am wondering if I should still use the Yamaha conditioner?

Thanks for any advise!

Is it any big surpise that Yamaha says to use Yanaha conditioner??? I have never heard that SeaFoam causes any trouble in any outboard motors. I have heard that using Stabil in old carb. cars can leave guck in the carb.,but it could be something else that did it? I have used SeaFoam and never had any trouble with it. Mercury recommeds Quickleen but they don't say SeaFoam is no good. Every Mfg'er wants people to use their stuff, oil, filters, conditioner, etc., that doesn't mean there are not better products out there! They will switch mfg'ers in a heart beat is they save money on them.....

I have used sea-foam in all my 'stored engines' - lawn mowers, chain saws, blowers, power washers, boats, cars, trucks, bikes for ~ 8 years now - nothing came from all those engines (paste material) upon restart for use in season - - - - not here in Michigan anyway

if this is true they will have documented evidence, lab test results, etc.

I would like to see such data until then its all hearsay

I switched over to Sea-Foam after I found a bottle of Stabil hiding way back on a shelf, that I probably hadn't moved in a couple of years. It had separated, and when I ran it thru a paint strainer, what was in the bottom of the container was very "chunky".

i too have used seafoam for long time and the only prob i ever had was i put to strong of mix in a plastic fuel tank and it did something to the black plastics in the tank so i ended up w/ tiny black flakes clogging my fuel filter. just add per instructions and no probs.

I am quite sure that this is normal and that Stabil has an expiration date on it, I dont know but I use it fresh when I buy it so that isnt an issue for me and I have never had a problem with it since I started using it in my first boat in 1977

This issue has come up for years and the Yamaha fuel conditioner look and smells like stabil. Sea Foam is a product that has not changed in years but fuel has. Sea Foam uses isopropyl alcohol which can be hard on two cycle motors. I am not a believer in the product because I don't like what the content which is http://www.seafoamsales.com/pdf/MSDS_SFTT_US.pdf
