I have an 05 225 Optimax. I just took it into the dealer to have it, my kicker and my boat winterized. When they checked the lower unit on the big motor, they found some fireline that I must have picked up on the lake, and I was told there are two seals inside the prop that need to be replaced. The next day, I got a call from the dealer who told me the cost to repair is $614. I am no mechanic, but replacing two seals doesn't sound like rocket science nor would I think the seals are that expensive. Am I getting ripped off? Any advice from someone who knows would be appreciated.

Sounds like prop shaft seal and something else - too.... to get that number.
Sometimes the line being there grooves the shaft and it must be replaced, too....?
Ask them,.

Dont be too surprised at the cost of any Mercury parts. I paid 120.00 for a gasket not to long ago. Good Luck.
