Need help on planer board. I have never used one,so I need all the info. I can get.I would like to run with crank baits or spinners 50 to 100 feet from my boat depth top to 20' + deep. Also I do not know how to rig one up.If it helps I fish on Foss lake in Oklahoma. It is a good walleye lake, but looked over by most fair weather fisher men do to rough waters if the wind blows (every day in ok.)makes me happy have the lake to my self most of the time.
Good fishing to all
Thanks! Scott

Scott,
I just started using them this year myself. They are very user friendly, if I can do it anyone should be able. Do a search and get on offshore's website...Lots of good info. I bought some shimano compre rods that were on sale,a few Diawa accudepth reels, a couple boards, snap weights, and most importanly the trollers bible and went out and caught some fish. It's really fun to try something new and pretty productive!

As far as rigging them, let out the amount of line, hook a snap weight to get down and let more out, or for the upper water column just hook the board on and let it rip.

What kind of board did you buy, Church, Offshore?

If you purchased Offshore boards the first thing you want to do is upgrade the release's on them, most guys use the OR-18 Snapper release and the OR-16 release on the back of the board. The OR-16 release has a little nipple inside it when you open it up. The snapper release allows you to use any type of line, braid or mono. Once you let out your line to the lead you want then you put your line into the given release and either snap it closed or just open the release put the line in then release it so the release clamps down on your line to hold it in place. It's very simple and basic and boards are easy to set up even if you have to updgrade the release.

Not all boards are created equal. I use Offshores and they are great. I hear alot of good reports on the Church also. Some of the other boards though will not handle a heavy deep diver, lead core or heavier snap weights.

Reading the boards will be your biggest learning curve. Help yourself out by running like rods and like set ups together. Do a search here, alot of good info to be found from past posts.

This might give you a little insight and confidence to start using in line boards.

I'll argee with you on that
But I replace the front clip only with a OR-16 (Red) and leave the OR-14 (black) clip in the back.

The red clip (OR-16) holds the board on the line and with the weaker black clip (OR-14) on the back
it helps to get the boards off faster.

I upgrade mine with the tattle flags and put on the red clips, front and back. Boards are too expensive, and an ounce of prevention.......

If you're going to use hard pulling lures, snap on wts, or jets. Or if you want the flexability of being able to use superbraids you need the snapper release on the front of the in-line boards.
