: Low.113 on 620 with windshield
coondog 11-18-2008, 03:37 PM I am thinking of upgrading my sonar unit to a 113, but cant decide if that large of a depth finder will fit on the dash of my boat, with the walk-thru windshield. My boat is a ranger 620. Any ideas on mounting brackets, or any feedback would be great. I was also thinking of a chartplotter, but do I need one with all that a 113 can do. thanks COON dog
The RAM111D is the big boy you need for a unit that size. It keeps the unit where you want it....without slipping. The trick is to use a short arm like in the picture below.

Modog 11-18-2008, 04:13 PM I sent you a PM on a 'Versa-True' mount.
2 1/4" balls and the body is solid aluminum, not plastic.
coondog 11-18-2008, 04:18 PM Thank you Juls, we can always count on you for reliable feed back, it nice to talk to someone whos been there and done that. Do you use just the 113 for all sonar and gpswork ,I dont see a stand alone plotter, just curious. THANKS COONDOG
I'm using H'Birds now, but I did use the big screen Lowrances in the past, so I know how comparable both products are in weight.
I use only one unit on the dash for both sonar and gps. With the bigger units it's easy enough to see in split screen.
It's also easy enough to switch between screen views if you want to see just the sonar or just the gps.
If you have big bucks burning holes in your pockets then by all means buy more toys...they're fun! But, it's not neccessary to your success on the water. ;)
I run another combo unit on the bow of the boat. That way if anything happens to the one on the dash, I can simply swap them out and keep fishing without worry.
It's never happened yet, but I always say, "it's better to be safe than sorry".
CLDFRNT 11-18-2008, 06:20 PM Tom Backer makes a longer mount that works really well. It's a standard type gimble mount for the big Lowrances. I have one on my 620 and I like it a lot, you never have to worry about your graph moving again. Good luck Mark N

Do you have the full windshield on your boat? Do you by chance have a picture to show how well it fits on the dash with the windshield?
thanks,
Juls
Backer mount 11-19-2008, 07:53 PM I have a Backer mount on my 620 with a full windshield and it is great. You can find it at bartness.com.

Yes , I do have a full windshied, but no pictures of it since I rigged it. I mounted mine on the flat part of the dash, above where your Ram is mounted. There is about three quarters of an inch between the back of the unit and the windshield. By flat part I mean Up on top. Good luck Mark N
K Gonefishin 11-20-2008, 06:50 AM I have a 38 on my 621 full windshield on a short arm ram mount, I was having trouble with the gps a few times so I borrowed my buddy's 113 and it fit nicely on the same arm, there was still a little bit of room before the back of the unit hit the windshield it was a bumpy day out deep off Erie and it held up nicely, I think the longer the arm the worse they move....the 113 is a heavy unit and big, I went with the 38 just for that reason. plenty big for me and my eye balls.

Don't have a pic of the Ranger, but it works the same as it does on the Lund. It lifts the unit up, and moves it away from the windshield enough to be able to mount the gimbal bracket directly on the dash. very solid mount, easy to install, and inexpensive.
Here's a pic of the bracket behind the Lund windshield with 2 113's side by side.

Tom made a few for the rectangular Humminbird units last year too. I'm not sure if they went into production?
