Gompers and Humblot park. Also one up north on Diversy Ave. I foret the name. I was a north sider. Also the Chicago river believe it or not. Didnt catch much there, but I was a fishing nut even as a kid.
I did fish Marquette because my grandmother lived on 83rd and Kedzie.

55th and Pulaski. My parents still live there. Believe it or not, they pull some decent fish out of Marquette now. Too bad the neighborhood is trashed. A friend of mine's uncle was beaten to death there a few years ago while he was fishing. Terrible. At least they got the guy.

Howdy Ralph, from another Ralph!!
Great topic.
Best products, hmmm. I have to qualify this by saying the top three in my world are. essentially, My wifes Wedding Ring (for all reasons associated with it) And 2 and 3 are diapers for my boys. If I didn't have them, there'd be no reason for the diapers!!! LOL
But in the vain of the topic,
My 3 best, in this order
1 - Ranger 620
2 - Merc 225 Opti Max on the 620
3 - This puter
3 worst? Hmmm.....
1 - Dodge Dakota I owned
2 - Everything named Sony (walkman, boom box etc)
3 - The lousy digital camera I have and the software that came with it
That about sums it up
Have fun.........R

Fun post. Lots of info on a lot of equipment.
1) The wife's ring. Hand's down best thing ever.
2) Colombia Thinsulate Duck hunting coat. Shell + liner. Deep pockets. Versital to conditions.
3) Carhart bib overalls. 'Nuff said.
4) Mad dog thinsulate gloves- (leather-type palms). Cheap and roll up well to fit in jacket.
5) Rocky 1000 g thinsulate hunting boots.
Moved to N. Minnesota. Not so long ago...
6) Bow fishing equipment. If you haven't tried this, do. Hours of entertainment on hot summer days with nothing better to do. If you can get a 3-4 lb carp early, put it a smoker and try this... yummy!
7) Turkey fryer. Even more yummy!!
8) Small sewing box type thing for walleye jigs. Works perfect for lots of different color jigs, style, weight, etc..
9) Plyer case to fit on belt while fishing. ##### snakes!
10) Head lamp for night fishing. Ever tried to cat fish at night w/o one?
Worst ever??
1) First tin of Kodiak. Just say no.
2) Subscription to North American Hunting Mag + another one to N.A. Fishing. Best thing they offered me was the shiny sticker...
3) Subscription to Field and Stream. Good magazine but where the ##### is this little camo bag they were offerin?
4) $140.00 pair of Oakley sunglasses I dropped over the side the same day I bought them.
5) The banana I ate last time I was out on the lake. Hey- you said produce didn't you?? lol

No.. it was just the trolling plate but the design/flaws are the same. The brass shear pins that lock it up or down shear very easily. I was breaking many of them at 1.5mph and under. And if you want a treat try hanging off the back of the boat and replacing them when on the water. You need a screw driver and 3 hands and hope you time the waves right or go swimming. Got 2 screw drivers on bottom of the lake and nearly myself also. They replaced my first one because it developed cracks in the hinge area. The second one came 'factory direct' with cracks in it. It completely busted off on Erie and joined my 2 screw drivers. I replaced it with the Happy Troller and it hasn't missed a beat, they are the best on the market..unless you got 2G for a kicker.

There are very fine lines between good product and good idea. The hands down top of my list on good buys are:
1) Cab's 800 onboard charger
2) ' 84 Chrysler 50 HP O.B.
3) Chartruese jigheads, 1/16 oz.
The three worst would list:
1) Shakespeare reels, any make, why there is a plural to this story is beyond me.
2) A Penn 309 in the bottom of Osage River after last years snaggin' run.
3) Shimano 2000, Sahara, fell apart while the wally bite was on one night, not right.

Tough to narrow down, but here goes:
Best
1. Fireline
2. Shimano spinning reels
3. The kicker for my boat (can't imagine being without it now)
4. Guidewear
5. Falcon rod (While rarely mentioned here, I think they're hugely underrated for the price)
Worst
1. Vanish line (lost more fish in 1 week than the rest of my life)
2. A huge tackle bag that I'm not sure I'll be able to carry in my older years!!!
3. An early (expensive)underwater camera. Sort of fun, but they've come a long ways since. Coulda had some nice stuff with that $$.
Actually, now that I think about it, it was Berkley "Ultra Thin", not SensiThin. The problem with all three was premature wear resulting in broken lines, lost fish and lures, etc. After the problems with Ultra Thin (circa 1995), I shied away from "XXX Thin" lines. My reasoning was that thinner is not necessarily better or stronger. Nowadays, I believe the line technology has advanced far enough that the manufacturers can produce a line that is thin, strong and durable. I am anxious to try Sensation this season. I'm spooling up some of my line counters with #14 Sensation that has the same diameter as #10 XT. Until I hit the water though, the jury is still out...

That's why they named the line Vanish. The fish vanish before your eyes as the line breaks at the boat.
I have to 2nd your comment.
I had a motor like that for many many years - never missed a beat, and I think that when I sold it - I still got about $300 for it.

Worst:

2) I really want to mention my main engine powerplant, but I also don't want to jinx it as it ran good (for once) last year. Hint, Howard _______ Hotels.

Wow! I can't believe you listed Irish Setter boots on your worst list. I've got a pair that are 19 years old and I can still stand in 6" of water and not a drop comes through. The tread on the soles is getting to the point where it almost flat, but never have these boots failed in any way. Maybe the newer ones just aren't as good. I'll probably outlive this pair though.....

#1 I would have to say my Lund boats. Everyone has been water tight,
good resale when it came time to sell, and I have always felt safe when out on rough water. I'm on my third one. Second would be my Mercury outboards. I've had four. Always been dependable, no real problems to speak of. Third would be my Lowrance LCX-15MT fish finder/GPS. I have had a few problems, but Lowrance has been excellent about replacement. I have had no issues with my current one.

It's interesting that many products that made people's best and worst fell somewhere in my good or OK ranges-I guess personal preference or even the quality of the particular product has some bearing on how it got ranked.
Best 5 (3 isn't enough):
1) Tie between Minn Kota AP/CP and Trollmaster Throttle Control. Both are handier than a pocket on a shirt for a troller.
2) Cabelas Guidewear-suprised they didn't make more people's list. Better than sliced bread when it's nasty out.
3) Superline (in particular Fireline and Powerpro are two of my favs). Fireline makes every spinning rod feel like a million bucks! Can't beat PP for most trolling applications.
4) Reef Runner and Rapala cranks. There's a Reefrunner or Raplala that will catch fish anytime/anyplace.
5) Dodge Ram 2500 Quad 4WD w/Cummins Diesel. It's still new, but all I can say is "Wow"!
Worst 3:
1) Stren line. I haven't used any in at least 10 years, but IMO back then it was junk.
2) Huge Plano Guide Tackle box -I could hold more stuff in my pants pockets than that thing would carry and it was HUGE. It sure looked good on the store shelf, though.
3) Every Hummingbird finder I bought in the 80's and 90's. Yes, there were more than one but I'm smarter now;)

I learned to fish at Humboldt Park in the late 50's early 60's. Caught huge bluegills tossing in a hand line(spool of line/stick for bobber and a hook). We picked our own crawlers in the small city yards or found them under wet newspapers along the curbs. In the mid-60's it was stocked with Bass. We caught some in the 10 to 13 inch range. Learned about bass fishing through sports afield and outdoorlife back then. Best fishing was at Turtle Island. Best sleding at Bunker hill. Used to be a Ma and Pa variety store that sold some fishing supplies at Potomac and Washtenaw. Fell in once off a concrete pier near the boathouse. Thought I was a going to die. A grown-up reached down and pulled me out. Learned to ice-skate on the lagoon. They used to have the big time Silver Skates competition. They sprayed that ice it was like glass.
I lived in that park as a kid till 1969. I occasionally return. It has wonderful memories and scary ones as well.
When the family got our first car we would go on many road trips out of the city to far away places like the Skokie Lagoons and Fox river at Elgin, for those ever elusive and tasty Carp.
Good post!
Best
1.) my old "green box" Lowrance. Without that I wouldn't have learned so much. Haven't used it in many many years. I use it as a desk ornament now............ but it still works! I turn it on every once in a while just to see the light go around and bring back memories!
2.) Honda outboard
3.) Crestliner Sportfish
Worst
1.) Chevy Tahoe (I knew better, but....)
2.) Any open face spinning reel w/a trigger (I knew better, but...)
3.) Any "magic lure" (I knew better, but.....)

Here goes my top 3 Best

Any dealings with Crystal marine
First time on Mil lacs with the wife and 45-55 winds and rainy so hard you couldn't see, in a new used Crestliner boat that almost sank it leaked so much.
The 75hp motor that came on same crestliner that was just overhauled...and had three cyclinders at about 70-80 psi and one at 20...

Best investment:
1) Vascectomy (the best $10.00 co-pay I've ever spent)
2) MWC Tournament entry fees: I learned more about walleye fishing while trying to compete, than any other money invested in magazines, videos, etc.
3) College education.
4) Berkley, Fenwick, and St. Croix rods (some I still love after 10-15 years)
5) Shimano reels
6) Yamaha 4-strokes.
7) Power-pro and fireline.
Oh, was this in regards to fishing, only. Disregard 1-3 above.

3) Cabela's entry-level gortex raingear (ditto)
