You can try the snap weight set from Off Shore. A copy of Precison Trolling can also help as well. They utilize the 50/50 method for trolling with snap weights although there are other methods a bit more scientific. Basically a snap weight is a lead weight (ranging from 1-3 oz) that attaches to the line by the OR-16 clip. 50/50 method incorporates letting 50 feet of line then clipping on the weight and letting more line out. Depth depends on the size weight.

You can also try segmented lead core trolling as well. There are quite a few threads in the last few weeks on this subject that you can look through to get a better idea.

Good Luck,

Snapweights will help you achieve your goals. The Precision Trolling book covers the use of snapweights, in that it tells you what depth your lures (shallow divers and harnesses) will be at while going a certain speed using a specific weight. There is also another page that covers using snapweights while using deep diving lures. That one involves a little math though...lol

Jerry, Go to WWW.OFFSHORETACKLE.COM and look for the snap weight kit. This is what you need. You can get any lure down deep with this set up, and won't hurt the action. Also look for book called Precision trolling that will help you learn how to use the snap weights.

You have quite a few options... since snap weights were covered I'll let them out.

1 Dipsie divers
2 lead core
3 wire
4 in line divers (fish seekers, jets)
5 bottom bouncers
Also take into consideration the superlines which are smaller diameter compared to same strength mono and will allow baits to run deeper.

You might ask a specific question pertaining to a single method rather than someone needing 2 pages to cover multipule methods.

I'd try a post asking max depth methods used in Lake ABC etc. If not just eyes, explain species targeted & your set-up and frequency to fish deep. Snapweights are a great concept and in many situations may be best, but there may be better options in certain applications.

Dipsy divers - to 55' or more? especially with a 1-2 oz snap weight in front of it, 40 & 50 jets (a 40 jet will go deeper than 40' with small dia line), fishseekers go to 70', heavy 3-ways, and leadcore will get you way down too. Slide divers are like dipsey's except your line is threaded onto the diver allowing you to have a very long lead. There is some sort of deal used by deep water trout/salmon guys that involves a heavy weight that drops off when you hook up.
