I have had two garmin gps/sounders that have lost depth readings while up at Quinte in November. Both times the units lost depth readings & would occasionally lock back in then lose the reading again. This happens under cold conditions ,low 20 to 30 degree temps & over deeper water 60 to 140 feet deep. The units were taken inside the cabin overnight & I store them indoors over the winter. I live in Erie PA. No damage has occured to the transducer. The boat is a 2004 Lund with original dealer installed transducer & gps/sounder which always has worked fine on lake erie, spring, summer & fall. When the first unit failed I replaced it with a new color unit GPS Map 178C from Jolly Ann Marine. Wade said the transducer which came with my original unit was compatible with the replacement unit. It worked fine for 18 months & then quit working half way thru the week at Quinte. Anybody have a similar problem? Can the connection of cold & deep bottom weaken the signal? I left a message for Wade @ Jolly before I call garmin direct. Thanks for your input.
