My 2008 Yamaha F-150 tiller misses when I give it full throttle from low throttle to get it up on plane. Just had it into dealer for winterization. Dealer thought it might be plugs, but they suggested I wait until spring for a full dealer check because the mechanic thought with the cold weather (in Minnesota) they may not be able to duplicate normal temperatures for operating a boat (i.e. spring, summer, fall); therefore, making an accurate diagnosis difficult. Does this sound like a plug problem (fouled)? Dealer replaced the plugs so hopefully that will fix it. Thanks in advance for any input. I pick the boat up tomorrow from the dealer so I have not had a chance to speak with the mechanic about the old plugs he removed.

How did it run once on plane?

CJ,

It ran fine up on plane. However, I did note that I could only get 5000 rpms once on plane; the manual recommends a top-end of 6000 rpm. I think I am low on rpms.

Yep, it's almost a given you have a bad plug. Same thing happened to my 250. Was just a bad plug. Replaced it and it's ran like a top since.

Do you have a Yamaha water/fuel separator inline of the fuel system?

The F150 is not known for being hard on plugs, but they are, as well as all of the large Yamahas, known for plugged fuel injectors. If you do not have that micron separator inline, I would bet it is injector and not plugs.

How would I know this, you probably ask........been there, done that. :exactly:

When I had my 115 Yamaha they Highly rec. running Ring Free, it helps keep the injectors clean

Eyes,

I use ring-free religiously, so don't think it is that. Thank you all for the quick response. Capt., I plan on e-mailing you. Thanks for the offer.

Just curious, which seperator did you use?

Al...who thinks dead batteries are enough to deal with..:)

Al,

The separator is a 10 micron Yamaha filter. The whole setup at a Yamaha dealer will cost you about $50. and the replacement filter is about $16. I change mine out once a year, usually in the fall, check for water a couple times during the year.

Here is the replacement filter:

If your talking about the hicup when you hammer the throttle to get up on plane...many F150's do it, as well as other f series motors. The culprit seems to be the fuel bulb placement. Move the bulb up the line so it's right at the motor rather than 2' from the motor, or have your dealer do it. Both my neighbors F150 and mine does/did it, I have a 05, he a 06. He has a good tech, tech moved the bulb...his doesn't do it any longer. Get the bulb as close to the motor as you can and still get the clamps on. Moving the bulb is on my short list of (to-do's) this winter.
