WCer's,
Can any of you help me aout going above and beyond the Humminbird Instructions Manual? I really debated going lowrance to be able to buy Doc Samson's Tutorials, but was persuaded to go Humminbird 787C2I after reading talking and researching....
I am looking to learn more about deciphering the bottom, i.e. fish, rock, or bush? And any other more advanced way of looking at things.
Also, How many gig card you guys use when you go out and record your day of fishing?
So if you all out there have any thoughts or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks,
Todd

Here is what I did when I bought my 987c-SI. Go out without a fishing pole.. And look over places you know well. Say if you know a tree is in the water. Scan it and play with the setting until you get where you can see it well.
It takes time to learn these units, but its well worth it.
I have a few screen shots on the humminbird SI section where the contest is. Its under Shilohred I think. Theres one showing a log sticking out of a drop off. And I hit it dead center and using both the SI and 2-D it shows you what a log sticking out with fish on it looks like.
Also go to the site that Greg posted. Theres lots of great info on there.

Paging Warren Mn... You have a client.
Seriously, Warren has been awesome in getting me up to speed with my 997.
I'll send you a PM to look at my screen captures. Its not rocket science, but it does require very specific settings to optimize the units capabilities.

2 gig card will do you fine as you learn.....definately the recommended San Disk ultras. I have "recorded" 30-40 minutes ( and much longer) at a time just slow trolling stucture to get on those spots. I did that many times, then would go home and review the recording a few times..., and erase it.
You really do enhance your perception as to what is on the bottom, but to answer your question on advanced tips......it still requires playing with it. The time you spend with those units the 1st year, will pay huge dividends the 2nd. Have fun with it.

Thanks for the replies! I am a little embarassed to say that I am wondering how maximize my use of the std sonar as the 787 doesn't have the side imaging function... I just wonder about target seperation and picking out fish from rocks etc... And if there are any ways you all out there have set you finders to help you out more.
For example coming from a B/W lowrance if would adjust grayline...Does humminbird have anything of the sort...Anytips or techniques that you all have out there and are willing to share are greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
Todd
