Hey T Mac which is the best way to go between these two motors. Running the yellowstone below billings and the missouri.

Hi

In terms of which fuel delivery system makes the better jet outboard - the OptiMax wins hands down. It is lighter and has more torque -- better overall performance.

We introduced a Jet 80 Opti this past year -- it is a 115, but with a jet the output is 80 -- which is why we call it an 80. We also introduced a Jet 110 Opti -- which is a 150 Opti powerhead -- but again -- with the loss of efficiency the output is between 110 and 115 hp. Each perform very well in their class!

I have the 115 optimax powerhead w/jet lower unit. Usually these are called 80 jets or 115/80 jets in the industry. Bought the 115 opti new with no lower unit. Lower unit w/UHMW intake rather than aluminum was about $2000. Engine was $6800 with the new merc big tiller. Jets have no torque feedback so power tiller steering is not necessary. REALLY like this unit. It is so good on gas and oil. My last boat was a Ranger 680T w/60 HP Evenrude three cyl. 2stroke(1991). The 60HP with standard lower unit and sst prop used more oil and about the same fuel.
Give me a PM if you have any questions. I researched this issue for ever!
