mercury 225 questions...

a friend is looking at a boat with a 2000 mercury 225 efi motor on it, i know i read that those years optimax 225 motors where terrible, is this 225 efi have same problems as the optimaxs did ?? are these efi motors reliable?? he isnt worried about fuel economy, he just wants a reliable motor ... any expirences with these?? or are they same as optis??? any info or expierences would be greatly apprecaited...

The EFI motors are very reliable, and do not suffer the same type and frequency of failures as a same model year Opti.

That said, typically if the Opti has not had problems yet, it most likely will not.

The EFI's are thirsty, so I'd have your friend really make sure he does not care about fuel consumption. At some level of consumption we would all care, so I'd encourage him to identify how much would be too much.

I ran a 200 and a 225 efi. I had little trouble with them. Started easy and went fast. Will drink the fuel like most motors when ran hard.
