Really had some fun casting Jerk baits this Fall, and I am thinking I might be due for a new reel. Do you guys like to fish samaller reels, lighter, lower capacity? Or, do you fish a larger reel with a higher line capacity?

I am wondering if you see any casting length benefit with a larger spool. I am really not worried about the actual capacity of the reel...
Thanks!

Look at the ABU Garcia Revo and if you want a larger line capacity look at the Toro both are smooth and high quality

I use a 30-size large-spool spinning reel with 20/6 braid for casting jerkbaits, and the system works very well.

I prefer a baitcasting reel. I mostly use Shimano 100 & 200 Citicas spooled with 10 -12# P-Line Floroclear.

I kind of match the reel to the line, the size bait and the fish I am after. ...and also to work with the rod I want to use.
For casting smaller baits like ..jerks, bladebaits.. whatever. ...I sure like Shimano Curados.
The 200 size.
You have no need for a wide spool in this scenario.

But, if I went back to Musky fishing... I'd get something bigger...and with more line capcity (wider)..

I also would prefer baitcasting tackle, with a high speed reel. Any good 6 to 1 baitcasting reel would work just fine for casting jerkbaits, it just depends on how much money you want to spend.

Happy Holidays!

The old timer in me still likes and uses the garcia 6500C and 5500C models,or their replacements.

I have a few Diawa's that work well too, but not sure of models.

I'm with Tmac on the curados.. Caught 100's of fish casting cranks with them. After getting out fished by my partner many times I learned that the 5:1 ratio was the way to go (lots of 1st fish dollars went the wrong way!). Especially if you're using suspending baits!

Do most of you guys like spinning or casting gear for throwing jerks? I have favored spinning to get a longer cast and get in the strikezone longer, but maybe casting gear would be a better way to go...???
