I know there are quite a few different guides on this site. I am planing on starting my own parttime guide serivce this coming season. I think i have almost everything sorted out as far as liscenses, equiptment, ect... However I haven't done anything as far as insurance yet. So the question is, what do i need? Thanks for any help

There's an insurance forum here in Walleye Central ( http://www.walleyecentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=42 ), and the guy who oversees the topics offers very good insurance for fishing professionals.

Woops someones tired:huh:, what I really meant to say was "yes sir" you will need to have insurance for your protection as well as your clients.I'm sure your local game dept. will help with what kind of policy that you will need.Good luck.

I believe you need liability insurance as well as insurance on your clients as far as any personal injury they may sustain while in your care. When they sign on for a charter you are responsible for them and their well being as long as they are on your vessel. If anyone gets hurt they can and probably will sue you. In New York you have to pass a coast guade test to get your captains license, so you may be able to check with them for insurance regulations as far as whats required. Then talk with an insurance agent for coverage and price

Will you be part of a Guides Association or Charter Captains association? If so many of those provide a source for insurance.

I opted to use Anglers Advantage as I was fishing a few tournaments and was not sure if I was covered under our associations plan.

Definitly as the other post recommended check out the insurance page on WC and ask the guy that sells it for a living.

Make sure you are well covered. A captain I know of, was trolling on Lake Michigan this past summer. It got a tad rough, and one of the guys fell overboard. Luckily he was able to throw him a ring, spin the boat around and get him in. None the worse, except cold. Now, if he would have went under............

Hey guys,
Just gave Bob Luellen a call over at Worldwide Marine Underwriters. He took the time to get to know my needs as a tourament fisherman and charter captain. Bob made sure that I had the proper coverage for my boat, as well as all my equipment, and made sure that as a guide I was properly covered when I have clients in my boat. He came back as good a quote as you could dream of for not much more then you would pay for standard boat insurance. So give Bob a call and let him quote you on your boat. I bet you will find what your looking for.
